CBS Tries to Fuel Draft Rumors (C-BS Biased?)
Media Research Center ^ | Sept. 30, 2004 | Media Research Center

Posted on 09/29/2004 8:05:28 AM PDT by MisterRepublican

Five weeks before the election, Tuesday's CBS Evening News attempted to legitimize baseless Internet rumors that President Bush secretly plans to revive the draft. Reporter Richard Schlesinger focused his piece around how one mother "is petrified about a military draft, and she's not alone. Mass e-mails are circulating among worried parents," as if the political spam had any merit. Instead of trying to allay the woman's fears with facts, Schlesinger instead asked: "Would you vote for a Democrat?" She replied: "Absolutely. I would vote for Howdy Doody if I thought it would keep my boys home and safe."

This is as big or bigger than Rathergate. CBS has been taken in my an ancient internet hoax.

The story is starting to bubble. Next stop, Drudge...

It's not an internet hoax, exactly. Congress actually has 2 bills that call for reinstatement of the draft.

Both bills come from Democrats.

For MSM, this is Bush's fault.

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over, and expecting a different result.

They were not taken in-- this story is easy to disprove. This was a deliberate hit piece.

The irony, IMHO, according to my own files, it was Ralph Nader who began the rumors.

CBS will never learn, will they? Hope this crow will be bigger, much bigger, than the last one they had to eat.

This draft hoax angers me, because the bills that have been introduced have been sponsored only by Democrats. Unless I am mistaken, not a single Republican has agreed to be a useful idiot and sign onto one of these bills. This in itself is a bit surpising, considering the number of RINOs in Congress. Perhaps it is because most of the RINOs are in the Senate, and perhaps the bills have only been introduced in the house. I don't know for sure.

On the other hand, it does not help that the DOD is calling people back into the armed forces and using stop loss orders to keep lots of people from leaving who might want to leave. I understand why these people are so valuable and why it would be so useful to have them stay in the services. That is not the point.

These actions make the wild rumors of a draft seem like they might have some kernel of truth in them. And since so much of this has been handled by word-of-mouth, it is hard to set the record straight. CBS may have actually done Bush a service by getting this into the open where we can rebut it.

This bill has been around for a while, also S 89 bill, but it hasn't gone anywhere. It is a scare tactic.

The dividing line is stark. I have neighbors and relatives voting for Howdy Doody because they have draft age sons. It get's trickier if they have draft age sons and younger sons as well. Are they willing to delay the fight so their "baby" gets left with the job?

The left of the left. Just like Ted Kennedy before them, they accurately see themselves in a box and out of power as long as foreign policy dominates the agenda. They want the Draft the same way fat Ted wanted his boy J F'ing to work the system in Vietnam so that he could spend a few weeks of face time in order to become the "legitimate voice of protest" against that war.

Al Pacino as fat Ted and Keanu Reeves reprising the role of the young captain John F'ing in the new theatrical release titled Teddy's Advocate.
