President Bush has joked that John Kerry should debate himself. I've got a similar suggestion for Bill O'Reilly of Fox News. He should interview himself. He has achieved financial success by appealing to conservatives, but went on the CBS 60 Minutes show last Sunday sounding like a liberal. He told the program that he is pro-gun control, anti-death penalty, and pro-gay adoption "as a last resort." O'Reilly also offered the opinion that conservative critics of the Al Gore theory of global warming are "idiots."
A self-described "journalist" who dismissed Rush Limbaugh as a mere "entertainer," O'Reilly told Mike Wallace of 60 Minutes that he might vote for John Kerry, whom he described as a "patriot" he has known for 25 years. O'Reilly denounced the Swift Boat vets' ads against Kerry as "awful" and "terrible."
Nine days earlier, however, on his own "O'Reilly Factor" show on the Fox News Channel, O'Reilly had said that Kerry acted in a "craven" manner when he came back to the U.S. after the Vietnam War "by besmirching all the fine soldiers in Vietnam" when he called them war criminals. While interviewing John O'Neill, co-author of the anti-Kerry book, Unfit for Command, O'Reilly said, "I enjoyed your book."
Some observers suspect that O'Reilly, after having secured an interview with President Bush, is desperate to get an interview with Kerry before the election. In fact, when Kerry advisor James Carville appeared on his show on September 23, O'Reilly virtually begged Carville to set up a Kerry interview for him.

The last few nights of his show have reminded me of a quote:
"That's enough about me. Let's talk about you? So...what do you think about me??
When he attacked SUVees and blabbed nonsense about global warmint I started to shake my head. But now it is too much, fuggetaboutit! I'd Rather switch to Err Amerika during commercials for laughs (at commiedians).
Go Rush, go Zell, go Shawn (without Colmes)!!!
Yeah, that did it for me too. These guys are the real heroes of the election.
IMO he's bucking to fill Rather's spot.
And I will buy that one too!
Dont hate the player, hate the game!
I think he is tempering his style so he can make inroads with those who fear to come on his show. I believe is more conservative than liberal. He is definitely less bombastic than he used to be.
And I don't 'hate' O'Reilly, I just think Bill "your humble correspondent" O'Reilly has gotten a tad too full of himself.
btw, have you noticed he doesn't use that phrase anymore. Hmmm, maybe he isn't humble anymore?
"Rumor has it that his next book that's in the works now, will be titled: I'm Looking Out For Me"
You ought to E-mail that to O'Reilly. Sounds pithy to me.
O'Reilly is arrogant and egotistical. Sooner or later that attitude will get you. I don't watch him. I really have enjoyed Joe Scarborough on MSNBC recently. I think he has done better on "Rathergate" than Fox.
"Reilly tries to see the world as some kind of Greek Philosopher trying to divine the Good and the Truth from what he observes. It worked for Plato and Aristotle, but they were bright guys. O'Reilly is just a cipher. And a crass one at that since he rightly saw the rising demand for conservative comment and opinion and jumped on that bandwagon. Now that he's successful he's trying to jump to the MSM where his wardrobe of conservative populism is unwelcome.
I quit when he had a rant about how he suported price controls in only one area of the economy, medical care.
Like tyou can isolate 1/7th of the economy from reality.
Idiot.
That's exactly my take on O'Reilly. He entered conservative radio when it became fashionable (and profitable). He must think Bush will lose the election.
If he were truly conservative (and confident about it), he'd take a few cues from Rush, who's maintained his message - and popularity - under Democrat AND Republican administrations.
I liked O'reilly in the period after 9/11, but he has since gotten way to arrogant to be effective. I don't pay him any attention these days. Look for the time that Sean takes the top spot...
I have stopped watching him myself. I used to watch him a lot, but lately I find myself disagreeing w/him more, and not quite understanding where he stands, so enough of Bill for me!
The assumption that Journalism is an honorable profession is entirely wrong.
I don't consider Limbaugh the least bit entertaining.
Last night he said his 'investigation' found some of the things the Swifties are saying are right and some are wrong. John O'Neil has said repeatedly that they have not had to retract one item from 'Unfit for Command'. Not one. O'Reilly has been way behind on this story from the beginning and has no idea of the impact the Swifties have had on this election.
O'reilly has a left wing streak down his back that's unbearable. He wants to please the socialists, Marxists and their useful idiots n New York. And he's an egomaniac. He should call his show "The Just Me Zone."
I agree that the main explanation is BOR wanting to interview Kerry - he thinks this interview, if it happens, will be the most profound ever. I mean, he still thinks that he made Bush president because Al Gore refused to show on his program. But he has indeed flip-flopped, he used to preach, "figure out who the terrorists would like to win and vote for the other guy." The man is simply pandering; I'd like to see a "no-spin zone" dealing with this.
