ROCHESTER, NY--According to the Democrat & Chronicle (which cannot be reposted here thanks to the cretins at Gannett news), "Former nurse's aide John Horace, imprisoned for raping and impregnating a comatose woman, claimed to the state Parole Board that he committed his crime because he thought a pregnancy could jolt the woman from her coma."
The paper notes that the woman gave birth to a son in March 1996, and died in March 1997 of natural causes unconnected to the rape.
She'd been comatose for more than a decade from injuries suffered in a car accident, the paper reported.
According to the paper, "Horace, who previously operated as a 'sex therapist,' said that he'd read in a medical book how to impregnate a comatose woman to help her recover."
"I had a lot of empathy for this person," the paper quoted Horace as saying. "It bothered me deeply to see this person in this position."
Prosecutors dispute Horace's version of how the rape occurred, the article noted.

Speaking of people in need of a jolt . . .
Whaddya want to bet that a certain former president is filing this story away for his own use in the future?
I wonder what became of the baby.
Wonder if he'll pay child support.
Maybe he'll ask for custody...
If you click on the link to the article in the body of the story, it says the child is living with the victim's mother.
Can you tell us the name of this book?
Believe it or not, it already was (in this case, artificial insemination of a comatose woman so that a millionaire with Parkinson's disease could benefit from embryonic stem cells.)
This is the Marvin Gaye defense:
"Sexual Healing"

Dear God, please help me from taking the low road and making a wife joke here. If you do this one thing for me I promise to give money to charity and go to church ever Sunday for a year. Amen.
*shakes his head*
WTF!!
Art come to life - wonder if he got the idea from "Talk to Her"...
uh-huh. Residual echo syndrome from 60s mantras: Only Love Can Set You Free... Love the One You're With ... and that classic goody: If you love something, set it free.. if it "comes" back to you...
The woman died during the C-section and the rapist was charged with murder IIRC.
The woman's parents had initially refused the paternity DNA tests because they didn't want the father 'scuse me, genetic contributer (male) to have any claim on the baby.
Also likely they didn't want to think to much about how it happened. Their son-in-law and unborn grandchild had been killed in the same car wreck that left their only child in a coma. A chance to have a grandchild after all that must have seemed like a miracle. But only if you didn't dig to deep into the hows of it happening.
Just damn.
If you want on the list, FReepmail me. This IS a high-volume PING list...
Execute the subhuman filth.

Coma-rapist convicted Rochester, NY -- A man hired as a nurse's aide despite a lengthy history of sexual misconduct was convicted of raping a comatose patient who later gave birth. It is the only known case of someone getting pregnant and having a baby in a chronic vegetative state. After seven days of testimony, a jury deliberated four hours before finding John Horace, 53, guilty of raping and sexually abusing the 29-year-old woman, who was severely injured in a 1985 car wreck. Horace showed no emotion as the verdict was read, but relatives of the victim gasped and cried softly. He could get up to 25 years in prison at his sentencing on March 27. "He chose the most vulnerable among us, a woman struck down in her prime, a patient entrusted to his care," prosecutor Jerry Solomon said in closing arguments. Horace worked for just five weeks at a suburban nursing home where the woman had been a patient for six months. He was fired in mid-September 1995 for another attack: fondling a 49-year-old patient with multiple sclerosis. It was at least the fourth time Horace was forced out of a health-care job since 1982. In his first day at The Genesee Hospital in October 1994, he was fired for allegedly propositioning a mentally ill patient. Because no one pressed charges in any of the cases, his history of abuse did not show up in his employment record when he was hired by Westfall Health Care Center in August 1995. Horace, a tall, elegant, fastidiously groomed man, had begun posing as a sex therapist for at least six months before joining Westfall, offering in ads to perform gynecological exams at his home. He pleaded guilty last spring to impersonating a doctor and offering examinations without a license and drew six months in prison. For law-enforcement and health-care authorities, the case highlighted a largely unrecognized problem: the vulnerability of nursing-home patients to abuse. "We ought to know more about the people we're entrusting our loved ones to," said state Attorney General Dennis Vacco, who was there when the verdict was read. "Horace should never have been employed" by Westfall. The pregnancy was four months along before it was discovered. The woman's Roman Catholic family ruled out an abortion and her mother chose to raise the boy, now 11 months old, rather than put him up for adoption.
geee - I wonder how many assaults werent reported - seems like a serial perp to me
