At rallies, marches, petition drives and town hall meetings across Kentucky, thousands of teachers and state workers gathered yesterday to protest proposed increases in the cost of their health insurance coverage.
School was canceled in 23 of the state's 176 school districts in response to a call from the Kentucky Education Association.

"Need a stretcher? Don't call Fletcher," went one slogan. "You can't afford a gurney thanks to good ol' Ernie," said another.
Fletcher, meanwhile, was out of the country on an economic-development tour of Spain, Italy and Germany.

"But I have a problem, as a taxpayer and parent, because we've missed quite a bit of school here lately."
..."What concerns me is my child's welfare and education. Here at work, if we have an issue problem, we can't take off work. We don't leave our customers."
Dials said such disagreements should be settled without interrupting instructional time.
"They're off all summer long," she said. "Why can't they present these issues when there's no school in session?"

"I'm missing valuable time in class I can't make up because of this," Burke said. "I think it's a bunch of crap."
A little after noon yesterday, Tom Doyle stacked boxes of Little Debbie Golden Cremes on a shelf at Kroger in Georgetown, with help from his daughter, Tori, 9. She and her sister, Sarah, 6, were spending a few hours on the job with their dad, who was juggling child care because school was out.
Doyle said he sympathizes with educators, but was unsure what yesterday's protest would accomplish.
"They already have the legislature coming back to work on this. They have their attention. Why don't they see what the legislature is going to do before protesting again?"

Ah, you see, sir, this isn't about solving the problem--this is about attacking the Governor. The KEA didn't do anything like this while health care costs sky-rocketed under 30 years of Democrat governors.

It just amazes me how these people don't realize the fact they are being used by the KEA and the Kentucky Democrat Party.
They have a right to be concerned about the health care costs, but this has been going on since the mid 1970s. The KEA did nothing so dramatic under Democrat Governors. Why don't they ask such questions?

I wonder how much their increase is. I was looking through some files yesterday. I'm a physician in a group with 8 other family physicians. I started there 10 years ago. My heath insurance just for me was 4,800 a year. Today it is 5,200. Not bad for 10 years. But the big kicker is my medical malpractice insurance has gone up just over
The KEA said nothing when the Democrats blocked efforts to reform Medical Malpractice Liability. Another thing that should raise eyebrows, but the KEA members are completely oblivious to it.
They also don't seem to mind the KEA keeps endorsing the people who help cause and keep these problems alive. Ten years ago the Dems passed a law that subsequently ran 40 insurance providers out of Kentucky. The KEA has not lobbied for a repeal of that law and continues to endorse those who passed it. Amazing. And their members keep flushing their money down the toilet and play along like good little lemmings.
