yep, here is part of the prediction....

"Russian-born University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) professor Vladimir Keilis-Borok says he can foresee major quakes by tracking minor temblors and historical patterns in seismic hotspots that could indicate more violent shaking is on the way.

And he has made a chilling prediction that a quake measuring at least 6.4 magnitude on the Richter scale will hit a 19,300-square-kilometre area of southern California by September 5..."

wonder how he feels about Mt. St Helens right now.

early 1990s office building, built on slab foundation on deep piers driven into former salt evaporater / dried out bay mud.

Keep in mind that those piers are supposed to be driven deep enough to go through the mud and into the solid rock below.

Nothing ...North County in San Diego.

missyme, do you suppose we're going to feel any of the aftershocks? ---

In SD we just roll, we don't shake, right? -- too much sand ;-)

"Isn't that unusual? I thought that aftershocks came a day or so later than the original quake. This thing has me nervous, and I've been in many major quakes."

Not that unusual, really. A Magnitude 6 quake will generate a goodly number of aftershocks in the first couple of hours, much like is happening here. The most interesting thing here is how many there were of sizable magnitude right after the first two shocks, and the increasing depth of the quakes. It DOES look like it's tapering off, though. Should be a couple more in the 3.5 to 4 range in the next few hours.

Felt it in Fresno and it scared me!

I was in Sylmar, Cal when they 1994 quake hit. Now THAT one was scary. I was in a friends mobile home and the jacks went through the floor, the toilet bowl fell over, the entertainment center fell over, and many of the trailors caught fire.

Is "Seismo-Mom" still popping up on TV every time there's a shaker?

Oh yes, you were sooooooo close, sheesh , you deserve bonus points for being 2 letters off.(Heh heh heh) Dr. Kate "I'm not a lesbian though you may think I look like one" Hutton. You surely remember her, she's still the one. I can't remember a time from 1980 forward when she wasn't on the TV after any quake. I'll bet she's already on.

Keilis-Borok's prediction failed.

His time window closed a while ago, and this quake wasn't anywhere NEAR his prediction area.

Quake rocks California
28/09/2004 19:45 - (SA)

Parkfield - A strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.8 has struck central California and was felt as far north as San Francisco and Sacramento, according to the US geological survey.

Police said there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

In nearby Redwood City, the quake delayed the high-profile double-murder trial of Scott Peterson after a juror reported feeling the shakes.

The earthquake, which struck at 10:15 (17:15 GMT) was centred 14km south of Parkfield and 27km northeast of Paso Robles, scene of an earthquake that killed two people in December 2003.

Keep in mind that those piers are supposed to be driven deep enough to go through the mud and into the solid rock below.

There is no solid rock in the Bay Area, just shattered rock that's not moving at the moment. On top of that, many areas in the south bay near the waters edge have hundreds of feet of topsoil above their rock layers, so anchoring is only done on the newer larger buildings.

Just one of the many reasons I no longer work in the Silicon Valley.

About two weeks ago I woke up to approaching rumbing followed immediately by our house being picked up & dropped once about half a foot. Knocked stuff off shelves, set off car alarms, dogs barking etc.

I expected to read about it in the mornings paper, but had a hard time finding anything at all about it in the local press. Turns out it was a very local & shallow shaker centered a mile or so away.

I've lived in CA w/earthquakes all my life but found this one to be especially odd.

some guy on Coast 2 Coast predicted a 6.0 in Central California for Oct. just last week!

Do you remember who it was? Sean David Morton (I think that's his name)? Whoever it was certainly got it right. I catch C2C occasionally, last week (psychic remote viewer) Morton predicted a Bush landslide! He thinks Ranier will blow in '05.
