Liquification scares me.

It should! I live in the Central Valley on top of a couple thousand feet of silt. When the big one (8.5+) hits the Bay Area, most of our big buildings will simply fall over because they're not anchored into ANYTHING. We have 15-30 story office towers in all of the major valley cities...Sacramento, Stockton, Modesto, Fresno, Bakersfield...built on unanchored dirt. Our distance from the fault lines protects us from all but the most major quakes, but when the big one hits, we're screwed!
