Kerry's Catholicism [The Anti-Christ]
The Boston Globe ^

IN LABELING John Kerry "wrong for Catholics," the Republican National Committee is lying about the meaning of Catholic faith, insulting Kerry, and moving the political exploitation of religion to a new low. The Globe's Michael Kranish reported Sunday on the RNC plot to target Kerry's religious unworthiness as a Catholic. Not only do the Republicans distort Kerry's positions on complicated moral questions; they misrepresent the current state of Catholic ethical thought. General outrage is the proper response to this strategy, but Catholics in particular should repudiate it.

ANTI-CHRIST!
What does the BIBLE say??
1 John 2:18-26
18. Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour.
19. They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us.
20. But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth.
21. I do not write to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it and because no lie comes from the truth.
22. Who is the liar? It is the man who denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a man is the antichrist--he denies the Father and the Son.
23. No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also.
24. See that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father.
25. And this is what he promised us--even eternal life.
26. I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray.
1 John 4:1-3
1. Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
2. This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God,
3. but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.
2 John 1:7-10
7. Many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist.
8. Watch out that you do not lose what you have worked for, but that you may be rewarded fully.
9. Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.
10. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take him into your house or welcome him.
Are there MAJOR groups that say that JESUS is NOT the CHRIST??
Avoid them!!!
666!
Revelation 13:11-18
11. Then I saw another beast, coming out of the earth. He had two horns like a lamb, but he spoke like a dragon.
12. He exercised all the authority of the first beast on his behalf, and made the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast, whose fatal wound had been healed.
13. And he performed great and miraculous signs, even causing fire to come down from heaven to earth in full view of men.
14. Because of the signs he was given power to do on behalf of the first beast, he deceived the inhabitants of the earth. He ordered them to set up an image in honor of the beast who was wounded by the sword and yet lived.
15. He was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that it could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed.
16. He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead,
17. so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name.
18. This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man's number. His number is 666.
(Notice NO mention of 'anti-christ' in Revelation!)

Excuse me for using the technical language. "Bingo" is a term in Catholic theology, meaning, "You got it!"

Carroll goes farther and farther away from Christianity with every word he writes. In his last book, as I recall, he argued that the gospels themselves were fatally flawed because they promote hatred for Jews. In his mind, his "faith" is grounded in a Jesus that he knows better than the writers of the New Testament did . . . because, of course, he made that Jesus in his own image. It's easy to see why he identifies with Kerry.

they misrepresent the current state of Catholic ethical thoughtThe teachings of the Catholic faith are based on the deposit of faith revealed by Christ to the Apostles and handed down by their successors in the form of Scripture and Oral Tradition and as explained and expounded by the authentic magisterium, consisting of the successors of Peter and the successors of the Apostles, i.e., the bishops in union with him. Theologians are not the authoritative magisterium. The teachings of Vatican II changed none of that.

Kerry's positions on a range of issues, from abortion to the death penalty to the centrality of social justice, mark him not as a renegade Catholic but as one of that increasingly large number of faithful Catholics who understand that moral theology is not a fixed set of answers given once and for all by an all-knowing hierarchy but an ongoing quest for truths that remain elusive.
To say that Kerrys position on the subject of abortion is elusive is an understatement. He has said he is personally opposes to abortion, and in the same breath does everything in his power to promote it. If this is a result of his quest for truth it is totally at odds with the teachings of the Catholic Church, and mark him as a renegade Catholic of the highest order. To deny life for any reason is immoral, unjust, and mortally sinful.

Several higher ups in the Church have made such statements, including Cardinal Ratzinger.
Boiled down to basics, it goes like this: there are some things, such as war and the death penalty, that ARE debatable. The Pope, for example, holds that the death penalty ought not be used in most western countries, believing that life in prison is more merciful. However, Church law does NOT forbid the death penalty as implemented by lawful authority.
On the other hand, there are five issues which are of an intrinsic evil (if I have the correct terminology). That is, they can NOT be justified, nor debated. They are Abortion, Euthanasia, Same Sex Marriage, Cloning, and Embryonic Stem Cell Harvesting.
These five issues stand in opposition to the word of God, and the teachings of the Church.
Oddly enough, Kerry is in favor of all five. That's a CATHOLIC position? I don't think so.
Paraphrasing, of course, but I think I've got the gist...

Speaking of Cafeteria Catholics, I wanted to relate a story that happened yesterday. I have a "Vote Catholic, Not Kerry" bumper sticker on my car. It has recieved uniform praise until yesterday. A guy almost killed himself and me trying to pull alongside me to yell, "I'm Catholic and I am voting for Kerry..(Explicative deleted.)"
I wish the Church would start talking directly to these people on Sunday. You are not Catholic if you do not adhere to the doctrines of the Church. Period.

> "Not only do the Republicans distort Kerry's positions on complicated moral questions; they misrepresent the current state of Catholic ethical thought." There is no such thing as "current" Catholic ethical thought. The Church remains constant on moral doctrinal issues. It is those in power who deviate from these teachings -- bishops, cardinals, even popes -- who damage both the Faith and society. Very dangerous when those in positions of authority speak and promote falsehoods (or even ambiguities).
