I started out against the president on this, but as time has moved along I've warmed up to it. There is no easy answer here, whether its building a wall and digging a moat or letting them all in unhindered. I'm willing to see if the President is right about this, and willing to wait a few years for the data to accumulate.

The president has my vote this time (what choice is there, really? a surfin' 50+ adolescent?), but come 2008, a real candidate better step forward. This is one issue about which I will accept no whining about how hard it is to deal with. Not even from Bush.

A word to the wise (party).

The flow has only been slowed once in recent years, it was during Clinton's first term, then Clinton issued a Presidental Order and stopped the Border Patrol from going to job sites and arresting the Illegal Aliens and the employer. Contractor's voices were heard in Washington not the average person.

That order still stands. If you think this is a false statement ask an older Border Patrolman in private. That is the only way they will answer. They don't want to lose their jobs.

Bush: Militarizing Border Won't Stop Illegal Deluge

Right! Our military is for foreign deployment only.

The military, our jobs and cash are America's greatest exports.

believe the best way to enhance the border is to have temporary-worker cards available for people

The guestworker program is a disaster in German and it would be a disaster here. Once they are here on a guestworker pass - they will NEVER go home - just ask the Germans. It does not work!!!!!!! I wish he'd quit trying to sell us on this idea. I am so angry about this issue I am not going to vote for him again.

"If you can make 50 cents in the interior of Mexico and five bucks in the interior of the United States, you're coming for the five bucks,"
'
Well Mr. President, do you know how to avoid this problem? Pay them NO BUCKS!!!! If they come illegally - thrown them out - give them NOTHING - then that 50 cents earned in Mexico will start sounding better and better wouldn't it?

Stopping these illegal goons at the border is what must happen.

Backside

and I agree. If the Freakin republican party doesn't pull it's collective head out of it's ass on this issue and start doing something about it, this will be the last time I vote for a Republican.

The Constitution party is looking better and better every time I see BS like this.

and before you say it (the collective you), I really don't care if a Dim gets elected later on down the road. The Republicans can do something to stop it and to stop other like me from leaving the Party, if you won't do what is necessary then the Republicans have left me, not the other way around.

This is why i'm not voting for him.

It would be an act of Treason to support anyone advocating this position.

That's why I believe in NAFTA

Of course with NAFTA the Mexicans are not making anything close to the $5 an hour they get inside the USA either --- NAFTA jobs get them less than that 50 cents he mentioned --- really Bush cannot be this dumb. He has got to be fully aware that NAFTA takes companies to Mexico only for those dirt wages.

No, Mr. President, not if you had the cojones to control the border. Maybe then the Mexicans would stay home and fight that worthless government they have. Change Mexico from the inside don't export Mexico's cancer to US.

How about stopping the transfer of Yankee dollars back home to mama and pappa? Couldn't this at least be looked into?

I am one of those maniacal people who think the border should be mined and electric fences installed.

I bet fewer people would die than do now.

After reading much of this thread I almost feel like doing a Sneaky Pete and just abandoning it.

If a conservative web site is full of people willing to sell out American for cheap labor, I think the country is truly surely dead. It just hasn't been buried yet.

This is the one sore spot I have with GWB. Seems to me that all borders to the U.S. should have been under military protection since 9/11 and declared so to all border countries for just that reason. If Mexico can't deal with that then too bad.

When warned that "a lot of people are not going to like that answer," Bush told O'Reilly, "Well it’s a, a truthful answer."

It's a totally BS answer....

There are a few individuals here that continually epound on how the united States of America can not possably close the mexico border, just fence or wall it off and keep it closed except for the proper crossing popints and bridges.

Here is a bit of my feedback to such nonsence.

North Korean blockhouse that I was told are too expensive to build by the u.S on the mexican border.  Strange, North Korea is FAMOUS for being just dirt poor.  The can build blockhouses on their border.  I bet if we had blockhouses on our border we could keep fresh paint on them and fix the roof.

My lord goodness graceious!  Are those electrical wires ?   HOW MEAN SPRITED.

In short, there is NO REASON why this county can not close the mexican border and Bush playing the toe in the dirt aw shucks "can't be done" routine is just politricks, nothing more.

Ok...

If you fine every hospital that treats an illegal $1 million per patient per incident.

If you fine every school that educates an illegal or illegal kid $1 million per student per year.

If you fine every employer that hires an illegal $1 million per worker per year.

If you punish every landlord that rents to an illegal by the confiscation of their property.

The illegal immigration problem will solve itself illegal immigrants will deport themselves. This will not require militarizing the border. All this will require is backbone from a President who - on this issue - completely lacks one.
