The U.S. has no plans to deploy troops along the Mexican border to stanch the deluge of illegal aliens currently pouring into the country at the rate of 3 million per year, President Bush said in an interview broadcast on Monday.
"As the governor of Texas, I was very aware of this issue," Bush told Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly.

"There is a long border, that makes it hard to control. We have beefed up places along the border to try to stop" the flow, he said. When told that his policy didn't seem to be working, Bush insisted, "Its working a little better.
"They're doing a pretty good job down in Arizona, which is the main border crossing. ... I think there's a thousand more border patrol agents along the border. Were modernizing border techniques, were using better surveillance methods to stop this crossing at the border."
The president contended, however, that illegal immigration was driven primarily by the economic realities of the region.
"If you can make 50 cents in the interior of Mexico and five bucks in the interior of the United States, you're coming for the five bucks," he explained.
"I happen to believe the best way to enhance the border is to have temporary-worker cards available for people," he said. "I think the long-term solution for this issue on our border is for Mexico to grow a middle class. That's why I believe in NAFTA."
When warned that "a lot of people are not going to like that answer," Bush told O'Reilly, "Well its a, a truthful answer."
Hear, hear!
Copied your 'letter' and will mail it to 1600 Penn. Ave. if you don't object.
A wall is neither violent nor extreme. It's sensible response to an obvious problem.
Of course it will cut down tremendously the invasion of our country. Bush is wrong here.
This isn't the 19th century! There weren't govt. handouts, then. People were expected to assimilate. We had a cap on numbers coming in, and they had to go through a physical to get in. We actually worried about them bringing dieseses in once upon a time.
I'd be quite happy with due process enforcement of existing immigration laws.
Federal & state indictments of employers hiring Illegals, followed by aggressive but fair prosecution in the appropriate jurisdictions. If guilty, meaningful punishments as proscribed by law to be meted out - no slaps on the wrist.
Agreed?
Many think we will find out in the next 6 weeks.

Not to mention ten times the welfare benefits.

Agree, many local taxes going up to pay for services for the influx. I'm way past tired of it.
Then there is the WOT security aspect. Wake up Mr. President. Please.
How tolerant of you.
I do not care where someone comes from AS LONG AS THEY COME IN THE FRONT DOOR, BY THE RULES. If you want to sneak in the back window, you are no better than a burglar or thief and WHATEVER happens to you is deserved. If you survive the desert and/or angry householders along the way, you should be marched back across the border in tar and feathers. NOT put on an airconditioned bus or airplane. My wife is from Jamaica and we went through all sorts of hoops to ensure she was LEGAL ALL THE WAY. Now more hoops for my stepson. And DOLTS, not unlike yourself, want to still support Dubya when he talks this sort of Barbra Streisand. For me, this is no more than another reason to sit on my hands in November.
It's called "asset forfeiture". Has a couple of decades of precedents behind it.
What a guy, he just announced to the entire third world:
"COME ON IN!"
Just what America needs, millions more uneducated, poor, and unskilled.
This lunacy never ends.
I personally refuse to be part of the destruction of our sovereignty, and our country.
There is no call for insults. I agree with you that they oughtn't be coming in illegally, and something ought to be done about it. Maybe I should have framed my response differently. I in no way excused the actions of those who are breaking our laws.
I only object to the (Wait for it...) hatred for Mexicans in some of these posts. Some folks talk about Mexicans like Osama talks about Jews. They just absolutely spaz out and spam every other thread talking about "the invasion" and how it is going to destroy the country, how Bush sucks because he won't kill em all with MOABs. That sort of attitude is revolting, and it isn't what we are about. When I agreed with JR, that is what I was trying to point out.
Illegal immigration causes problems, but it is NOT going to destroy the country. Nuclear weapons might, socialism might, but just having more brown people will not, on its own, destroy the United States of America. Yeah, it's a problem, but without spending untold billions more dollars (we're talking 1/4 of the DoD budget here) to watch both the Mexican and Canadian borders along each and every mile, there just isn't much that can be done outside of what the President has proposed. That isn't being like Barbra Striesand, that is being a realist.
You can bet your kerry that the MSM is watching us like hawks, collecting all of the off-the-wall nutty comments. Sometimes I wonder if these people aren't just trolls trying to plant crap like this on us, should we ever become too influential.
Most of these guys who are frothing at the mouth don't give a rat's democrat about the law. They just don't want their precious "white culture" diluted. Being married to an immigrant, you should be able to see my point. Whenever you see people wrinkle their nose at your wife's accent, or stare accusingly, remember how it feels. That sort of madness will never do us any good.
You bet.
I'm curious just how long you thought you could get away with this, without someone calling you on it.
He's already been called on it. The heats on. That's why you're going to see these people attempt to legalize millions of these criminals. They are going to do it, in my opinion, regardless of what the overwelminig majority of the American people want.
Kerry would be worse! Kerry would be worse! (just keep chanting...)
Two Words:
Posse Comitatus
GWB always sneaks by using this excuse...he's not perfect, but gee gosh, the other candidate is even worse. I'm not buying into this anymore. Maybe, just maybe, anyone who betrays their base and the economic well being of the middle and lower class workers, should be voted out of office. If it happens often enough, the politicians will get the message and start sounding like Tom Tancredo.
It happens to convicts all the time. Why should those convicted of hiring illegals be exempt? Because they're good loyal Republican johns?... er, donors?
How is a wall violent and extreme?
