The U.S. has no plans to deploy troops along the Mexican border to stanch the deluge of illegal aliens currently pouring into the country at the rate of 3 million per year, President Bush said in an interview broadcast on Monday.
"As the governor of Texas, I was very aware of this issue," Bush told Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly.

"There is a long border, that makes it hard to control. We have beefed up places along the border to try to stop" the flow, he said. When told that his policy didn't seem to be working, Bush insisted, "Its working a little better.
"They're doing a pretty good job down in Arizona, which is the main border crossing. ... I think there's a thousand more border patrol agents along the border. Were modernizing border techniques, were using better surveillance methods to stop this crossing at the border."
The president contended, however, that illegal immigration was driven primarily by the economic realities of the region.
"If you can make 50 cents in the interior of Mexico and five bucks in the interior of the United States, you're coming for the five bucks," he explained.
"I happen to believe the best way to enhance the border is to have temporary-worker cards available for people," he said. "I think the long-term solution for this issue on our border is for Mexico to grow a middle class. That's why I believe in NAFTA."
When warned that "a lot of people are not going to like that answer," Bush told O'Reilly, "Well its a, a truthful answer."
What a ridiculous policy. Put AMERICANS first!!
RICO won't prevent those who would do Americans harm from waltzing in..............
But it's a good first step.
Exactly!
For some reason, very intelligent folks turn into total psychos when they hear anthing that has to do with Mexicans. I mean, geez, people said the same thing about the Irish in the 19th century. Said they'd over run us, that they were all lazy crimals. They'd ruin the country!
Well, the Irish didn't ruin the country, though proportionally more Irish came to our nation than Mexicans during that time. The only difference I can tell is that lots more people have family names that start with O', and we probably drink a bit more than we used to. Mexicans aren't that different from those Irish immigrants, except that they have more of a language barrier to overcome.
Personally, I don't give a hoot about what color my great to the nth grankids are, or how many tacos they eat, as long as their free.
er, that last "their" ought to be a "they're", eh he he.
*rolls eyes* See, you're exactly the sort of person I was talking to JR about. You know better than that.
President John Kerry, and whatever SC he gets to pick out, will not help the situation. And if you think the Republicans in the Congress will stop him from going the other way, well, just remember the Clinton years.
How quickly we forget.
Thanks for the heads up!
You and I have to obey the law. Why don't businesses who exploit illegal alien labor have to obey the law? Are there some classes in this country (illegal aliens and businesses who employ them) who simply don't have to obey the law?
"Wartime ROE" is what every sane nation AT WAR employs. You announce loudly and clearly that from now on, "runners" will be stopped, one way or the other. The current Keystone Kops system says, "speed fast on the highway, and we'll drop pursuit" and so on. This encourages the coyotes to take wild risks on the highways, driving backwards against traffic at 100MPH on the shoulder is one such trick. They know the BPs rules are to let them go. This actually leads to MORE deaths.
A firm set of rules will cause coyotes to quit, since their chances of success will drop to near zero. Fewer will die of thirst in the desert, becuase almost nobody will TRY to cross the desert, when they know the risk of aprehension is 99%.
This is what SANE countries do in WARTIME, when terrorists are known to be trying to sneak into your country.
Thanks for the ping!
It doesn't seem to be a problem when citizens' property is confiscated in the WOD. Or when citizens' property is confiscated when they are caught soliciting a prostitute. Why should it be a problem if illegals' property is confiscated?
The real solution, however, is to eliminate the incentives to come here. Eliminate free medical care, free education anchor babies, federal & state handouts & begin to severely punish employers. Implement these & the illegals will stop streaming over the border & a significant number of them already here will go back.

Bush takes us into war but cannot stop the flood of illegals????? Lying thru his teeth.
Totalitarianism here we come."
The IRS already confiscates property for far less a legitimate reason.
If these scoff-law bozos hire ILLEGAL, anonymous "workers," who put US security at risk, then so be it.
Bush's response to the border question was PATHETIC!
It may not stop it but it will darn sure put a much needed plug in the dyke.
I guess we're just supposed to surrender the deed to the White House and America over to these people.
I can remember days and times in the not too distant past where this would not have happened. It shouldn't even be an issue now.

I'll give him a truthful answer. Truth should transcend political parties, and one's loyalty to them. The truth is, both Democrats and Republicans are guilty of breaking our laws because they all want open borders. Open borders are against American law. Therefore, our politicians are law breakers, and have not lived up to their oath to protect and defend America from foreign invasion.
Our elected officials didn't ask the people in America if we wanted open borders and floods of illegals demanding services, and stealing money from hard working Americans. They have instead taken it upon themselves to cater to big business and in the case of Democrats - incouraging illegal votes. Both are wrong and should be addressed by voters everywhere.
I will vote for Bush this year, however I doubt that four years from now I'll even bother to vote in any national election. While open borders will continue for the next four years, and we can count on that, we Americans will be overwhelmed by the millions upon millions more of illegals, which will cause our country to self destruct.
With all due respect....if we have neither the political will, men, or material to "police thousands of miles of (our) border" to protect our OWN Democracy....we sure as $h!t have ABSOLUTLY NO RIGHT, or MANDATE to send men, and materials half way across the world to install a supposedly "Democratic" form of government in some turd world Rat-hole.
WOT, or not. To keep doing nothing (or throw a measly 1000 additional HS agents on the border) or continue this dog and pony show, is just a pointless folly.
We send in 187 billion to "protect out national interests" in the crap hole called Iraq and let tens of thousands of "unknowns" meander across our borders unaccounted for each month.
Ironic?
Just plaine stupid?
A sellout?
a Joke?
No land mines, bombs and such needed.
We can put a man on the moon and we can not secure our borders? We have no right to even exist as a nation then.
Stick a fork in us (the US) we're done.
Just how "left-leaning" is GWB then, if he turns a blind eye to this illegal invasion?
Is our Constitution simply a piece of a$$wipe for the likes of you?
Excellent senmtiment!
The President was great on O'Reilly last night, truthful, confident, giving coherant answers -- and then he truthfully shows us all there will not be even an attempt at effective, sensible border control.
The President is very up-front about it - NAFTA, FTAA to the max until Latin America's standard of living rises to the point where it matches the U.S.'s falling standard of living. Then there will be $5/hour [the President's number} jobs on both sides of the border. Plenty of them.
Makes sense to me. I simply don't agree with his plan.
