For some reason, very intelligent folks turn into total psychos when they hear anthing that has to do with Mexicans. I mean, geez, people said the same thing about the Irish in the 19th century. Said they'd over run us, that they were all lazy crimals. They'd ruin the country!

Well, the Irish didn't ruin the country, though proportionally more Irish came to our nation than Mexicans during that time. The only difference I can tell is that lots more people have family names that start with O', and we probably drink a bit more than we used to. Mexicans aren't that different from those Irish immigrants, except that they have more of a language barrier to overcome.

Personally, I don't give a hoot about what color my great to the nth grankids are, or how many tacos they eat, as long as their free.

This isn't the 19th century! There weren't govt. handouts, then. People were expected to assimilate. We had a cap on numbers coming in, and they had to go through a physical to get in. We actually worried about them bringing dieseses in once upon a time.

How tolerant of you.

I do not care where someone comes from AS LONG AS THEY COME IN THE FRONT DOOR, BY THE RULES. If you want to sneak in the back window, you are no better than a burglar or thief and WHATEVER happens to you is deserved. If you survive the desert and/or angry householders along the way, you should be marched back across the border in tar and feathers. NOT put on an airconditioned bus or airplane. My wife is from Jamaica and we went through all sorts of hoops to ensure she was LEGAL ALL THE WAY. Now more hoops for my stepson. And DOLTS, not unlike yourself, want to still support Dubya when he talks this sort of Barbra Streisand. For me, this is no more than another reason to sit on my hands in November.

Thanks for trying to paint us all as racists. Too bad you are sad and wrong.

I care about my tax dollars going to the feeding and care of the anchor babies of the illegals. I care about the ERs that are shutting down because illegals use them as doctor's offices and then don't pay the bills. I care about the children of illegals getting in-state tuition to go to college. I care about wherew my money is going.

The Irish didn't feed off the taxpayers.

Others have pointed out the difference, but I think it needs emphasized. It has nothing to do with xenophobia or prejudice.

First, it is a huge security risk to be allowing in unscreened immigrants these days. I would include students here on visa, BTW.

But even without that, the other factors... assimilation, education, welfare... The drain on medical care alone is enough to say This Has to Stop.

The early Irish immigrants were akin to those from other countries today - self-supporting, some even professionals who could contribute much, but who are held off even after jumping through the bureaucratic paper-chase.

All the while, others are illegally sneaking over our southern border to simply wait for the next amnesty, or birth a baby (for free - and some receving months of $$$$ neonatal care) to know we wont send the parents back.

And they pay next to nothing back into the system they drain, many of them even sending their earned $ back to Mexico.

Have I taken advantage, knowingly or not, of cheap lawn care and housekeeping? Probably. But I know that as a country, it is penny-wise and pound-foolish.

And what about the waste of $ we do spend on nominal border control? Winking and nodding behind the backs of the men patrolling is just a poor way of doing things.
