Hit the snooze button. Who cares what the LAT says.

Actually, given the fiasco at CBS, I could see the LA Times endorsing President Bush as a calculated move to make it seem that they are not biased. It would be a move that might bring back some of their subscribers. (I am not holding my breath, but it would be interesting, wouldn't it.)

Well, since the LASlimes wants to support moderates it will have to endorse Kerry. I can see their reasoning. Bush is too far to the right and Nader is too far to the left. Kerry is juuuuuuust right. Sort of like the porridge I had last night.

If this is what the LAT has to do to interest readers, they're in a heap of trouble. :-))

Michael Kinsley is the editor of they LA Times. I really don't think there's much doubt about who the LA Times will endorse.

That's only because Lenin is dead.

Sure, they have a diversity of views. They can't decide whether to endorse Jacque Fraud Kerry, John Ho Chi Min Kerry, Jane Fonda Kerry, Mr. Tah-Razor Kerry, Juan Castro Kerry, John Beau-Tox Kerry, John "Look At My Suntan" Kerry, John "I Really Never Ate at Wendys" Kerry, John "I Attended the Security Committee Meetings Before I Didn't Attend Them" Kerry, John "Six Months, Two Year, Five Year Withdrawal" Kerry, John "Son of Dr. A. Franken-Stein" Kerry, John "The Rich People are Destroying America" Kerry, John "Are All of My Hairs in Place?" Kerry, John "Sensitive War on Terror" Kerry, John "A Man of the People" Kerry, John "The Patriot Act is Putting Potential Cabinet Appointments in Jail" Kerry, John "I Hope We Can Convince the Nigga's to Vote for Me by Telling Them How the Republicans are Racists" Kerry. All of the other John Kerrys were deemed insignificant because they were not expected to poll any votes from living voters.

Their choice is shrouded in mystery!

Yes, the suspense is killin' me...Chirac, Flip/Flop or Gus Hall. (CPUSA..I know, he's dead, Jim. :^)

The LA Times was one of the few papers to endorse Goldwater (at least I think I remember that.)

No doubt who they will endorse. It will be funny to see how much ink they waste in trying to convince readers that they are making an objective choice.

I believe Kinsley still lives in Seattle, commutes down to L.A. for meetings. That's not unheard of, but it does seem strange to me. How can he be an editorial page editor for an L.A. paper if he doesn't live in Southern California?

I've come to realize that the looseness of the journalistic life, the seeming laxity of the newsroom, is an illusion. Yes, there's informality and there's humor, but beneath the surface lies something deadly serious. It is a code. Sometimes the code is not even written down, but it is deeply believed in. And, when violated, it is enforced with tribal ferocity.

John Carroll, editor of the Los Angeles Times, in an adaptation of a speech in which he blasted Fox News.
