HOUSTON -- Dan Rathers daily CBS radio broadcast is off the air where he grew up.
Houston CBS radio affiliate KPRC hasnt been running it for the last couple weeks in reaction to his 60 Minutes report questioning President Bushs National Guard service.

I felt no anchor ... should ever be the story or bigger than the story, Ken Charles, program director of the news-talk station, said Monday. I thought it was appropriate to take him off the air.
Rather last week apologized on behalf of CBS News because it could not authenticate documents used in the Sept. 8 story that suggested Bush got preferential treatment. The apology wasnt sufficient to put Rather back on KPRC in the nations 11th-largest media market.
For right now, Im not convinced theres any reason to put him back on the radio station, said Charles, whose station lineup includes opinion-based talk shows of Rush Limbaugh and Michael Savage. Until CBS or somebody is able to do that, I feel like theres no place for Dan Rather on KPRC.
CBS spokesman Dana McClintock said he was unaware of the stations action and declined to comment on it.
Rather was born in Wharton, about 50 miles southwest of Houston, grew up in Houston, went to Sam Houston State University north of the city and worked at Houstons KHOU-TV before joining CBS in the early 1960s. President Bushs parents, former President George H.W. Bush and Barbara Bush, also live in Houston.
At least one radio station, WNIS in Norfolk, Va., last week dumped all of CBS because of the story.
Charles said hes received more than 300 e-mails about dropping Rathers five-minute news-and-analysis program.
Its been overwhelming ... over over overwhelmingly supportive, he said. Four of them called my mother really bad names, which is unusual because I thought liberals were nicer.

---- that is CLASSIC Ken Charles!!
2-6 PM talk-show host Chris Baker was pushing hard for it, and Ken Charles told him and the listeners, on-air, that he was replacing the 4 PM Dan Rather broadcast with Fox News Radio.
This is another angle to work folks! CBS Radio News is on a lot of stations. They continued to push the BS long after they should have. Here in Portland KLX is the talk radio station w/ Michael Savage, Laura Ingram, local conservative Lars Larson and Hanity. I doubt most listeners are interested in ultra-unbalanced CBS views of stuff.
I've already called the program manager. Pressure works. Keep it on, keep it up and help drive CBS off the radio dial in your city!
Ken Charles made a great decision. KPRC is our favorite talk radio station. I just wish more program directors would make the same gutsy decision.
Houston pinggggggggg
Yes. I was listening to 950 on the drive home and it was so refreshing to hear Fox instead of dan.
I emailed this to my local cbs affiliate. I suggested they should do the same--drop Dan.
Democrat hate speech?
Used to be said that a person should be able to weather "names" knowing that only "sticks and stones would brake one's bones." Somehow one's words now can become hate speech, a punishable offense. I can't quite figure out how the law drifted this far afield from common sense.
I walked in and turned the TV over to ABC News with Petar Jennings. Within 20 seconds my bride disarmed me and with her foot on my throat and 12 gauge shotgun to my temple demanded to know what I did with her husband and do I make more money than he did.
She still has her eye on me. If they don't use the KPRC interview then I am toast!!!!
Guess I didn't need to ping humblegunner ............
LOL!
So are you vindicated, or is she trading you in for a newer model?
Gunner's having a not quite so good day.

Stay safe !
I can assure you that Ken Charles made that comment in a very sarcastic manner...
It was Buckhead's fault.
Last Friday evening the IT people at corporate decided
that political discussion forums & whatnot should be added to the "denied" list.
I must question the timing of this! ;-)
I already have a plan to route around the network, no worries!
