LOU DOBBS: Congressman Dana Rohrabacher of California ...has introduced a bill that would forbid anyone working in this country illegally from receiving Social Security benefits, and he joins us tonight from Capitol Hill. Congressman, good to have you with us.
ROHRABACHER: Thank you very much.
DOBBS: Correct my interpretation if it is wrong -- not only are the American people denied representation on immigration policy in this country, but the effect of a totalization agreement is to deny participation by the U.S. Congress, other than through veto.
ROHRABACHER: I will have to say that this is an undemocratic way of approaching this problem. ...
DOBBS: ... Congress, your party and the Republican and the Democratic Party, has -- have been absolutely silent. Why...
ROHRABACHER: ... I predict that within a year or two, they'll be a third party that will emerge and it will sweep out the existing parties.

add in whacking away of the special interest lobbies and I'll THINK about it ;)
You mean like how they rode the momentum of 1992 to major prominence today? Oh wait, they aren't prominent today.
The problem with third parties is that so many of them are single issue, and the ones that aren't single issue allow themselves to be represented by loonies like Perot.
Why is Europe so pro-Muslim? could it be because they've let so many Muslims immigrate into their countries, tipping the political scales? We're on that track in the US, if we don't get a handle on immigration. And how can we fight a "war on terror" with a straight face, while letting the borders stay open?
Not if GWB, begins addressing this issue after he won the election. He will be a lame duck not fearing re-election.
If the Republicans don't start paying attention to the Illegal immigration problem and if we have another attack on american soil the likes of 911, I think the problem will be far worse than just a 3rd party.
There's liable to be armed rebellion with Mohammedens being lynched by the bushelfull.
While I don't share his assessment on the timetable, it is coming for sure.
Sounds like Rohrabacher's looking for work. If a third party is going to "sweep out" incumbents in 2006 based on illegal immigration, it's going to have to conquer political correctness first. I'm not saying it's not possible, but the amount of money comandeered by the RNC and DNC is gargantuan compared to a grass-roots operation.
Different time. The issue is coming to a head. Goldwater couldn't win for conservatism in 64 - but that didn't mean conservatism was finished; its time came in in 1980, when Reagan won. By same token, the "time" for a borders-control political movement is approaching, when we have a war on terrorism and economic and jobs dislocation on a scale we didn't have in 1992.

The Dem Party is dying. IMO it will be replaced with a party that allies anti-illegal immigration and pro-labor interests. The GOP will be the party of business interests, especially with more and more people becoming entreprenuers.

The emerging political dynamics will be interesting to watch.
The impetus will not be the anti-illegal immigration side, but the emerging large Hispanic minority which will want a party of its own--
Ironic, but I think that'll bring in a multi-party system.
Can't happen soon enough.
Now that's interesting. Who are you voting for POTUS on Nov. 2, churchillbluff, the Libertarian or the Constitution Party candidate?
Rohrbacher is probably correct about the emergence of a 3rd party, but probably wrong on the idea that it will form as a result of illegal immigration.
