We saw the CROWD on the local news and that is when I told Chris I tried to get tickets but did not want to clue him, anything to keep his health in check.

He smiled and told me it was too crowded anyway he could not have handled it medically.

It is the thought that counts anymore around here and me not letting things slip out of my mouth as I am so use to sharing all plans and events with him while in the process have had to learn not to do that as not to set off his excitement that builds up setting off the lung spasms and overflow of tone in his body to where no one can get near him to care for his medical and hygeine needs.

Can't wait to hear more about the First Lady's talking points.

I saw on our Oregon board that a Bar in Portland is hosting a gathering place for Bush supporters for the first debate and even allowing cigars!

Fantastic.

Veterans for Kerry Barred From Bush Rally

Tuesday, September 28, 2004 11:26 PM EDT
The Associated Press By BRAD CAIN

About 30 Oregon veterans who support Democrat John Kerry for president were rebuffed Tuesday when they showed up at a Republican rally in hopes of delivering a letter to first lady Laura Bush criticizing the war in Iraq.

Bush spoke to about 3,500 of her husband's supporters at Chemeketa Community College here and, as with other Bush-Cheney events in the state, admission was by ticket only and was limited to supporters of the administration.

Before the rally, the group of pro-Kerry veterans asked Secret Service agents at the site to deliver a letter to Bush, but were told they would have to mail the letter to the White House.

Terry Kirsch, a Vietnam veteran from Canby, Ore., said he later tried to use a ticket to get into the event, but was told the fire marshal had closed the site.

"It was very disheartening to me as someone who fought in the war and was wounded in the war, and now I'm not allowed to hear my government speak," Kirsch said.

Kevin Mannix, chairman of the Oregon Republican Party, said the decision to close the event had to do with safety, not politics. He also dismissed complaints by Kirsch and other Kerry backers about access to the rally.

"This was a rally for Bush-Cheney supporters," Mannix said. "If people have already made up their minds to support John Kerry, then they are welcome to attend John Kerry's rallies."

I like what Mannix said there. We need to get him elected governor in Oregon next time around. (And get the taxes reduced!)

"About 30 Oregon veterans who support Democrat John Kerry"

IF there were 30, proably 1 in 10 actually were vets.

"Phony Vietnam veterans alleged in books
Guenter Lewy's 1978 book America in Vietnam (pages 316-317) and B.G. Burkett and Glenna Whitley's Stolen Valor (Verity Press, Inc., Dallas, Texas)(pages 113, 131-137) contain similar information about alleged flaws in Lane's book. Neither book, however, refutes any of the testimony given during the Winter Soldier Investigation.

Lawyer and leftist activist Mark Lane was one of the organizers of Winter Soldier. In 1970, Lane had published a book called Conversations With Americans purporting to be interviews with Vietnam veterans about war crimes, containing Vietnam tales of atrocities. Reporter Neil Sheehan showed some interviewed in Lane's book had never served in Vietnam and others had not been in the situations they described. Lane admitted he did not check military records, as confirmation of details was not relevant. Lane later confirmed these militarty records.
The following are often falsely listed as being participants in Winter Soldier, but were actually in Lane's book instead. This confusion is probably due to Stolen Valor having an explanation of Lane's history within the section on Winter Soldier.
Chuck Onan, stock room clerk in Beaufort, S.C.
Michael Schneider, deserted in Europe and deserted again in the USA.
Terry Whitmore, was in an unpopulated area of Vietnam.
Garry Gianninoto, medical corpsman at battalion headquarters.
VVAW leader and Winter Soldier co-organizer Al Hubbard lied about being an officer, and sustaining war injuries - but he never testified at Winter Soldier .
According to the investigative work of Burkett, Lewy and others, there were many imposters, liars, and plain nutjobs who infiltrated the ranks of the anti-war movement, and, in some cases, testified to war crimes and atrocities that never occurred in order to get attention, sympathy, and, in one documented case, medals and honors."

Right on - why should any ignorant protestor assert the privilege of taking up space that would prevent a committed True Believer from enjoying this rare opportunity to see the First Lady, or any administration member this close?

Guys and gals,

It is always so wonderful to attend a function or event that starts with a prayer and the pledge and the National Anthem. The Republicans know how to do it right. I got goosebumps when the audience spontaneously started to sing the closing stanzas of "The Star-Spangled Banner." A very touching moment!

Things started today with an astronomical number of people standing in the gym at Chmeketa. The mistress of ceremonies, Amy ??, introduced the three Cs frunning for office in Oregon
Connolly for Attorney General
Caton for ??
Close (who wasn't there) for Secretary of State. (Throw out Bradbury with the dishwater -- my comment.)

Then Al King was introduced from Klamath Co. who is runny against Wyden. Entrepeneur, rancher -- we need to get him into the Senate!

Next we listened to Jim Zupancic who is running against Darlene Hooley in District 5. It is time for a change. We need some Republican values there and not Hooley's nonsense.

The next two ladies introduced were the wives of Gordon Smith and Dave Walden, ?? and Amy. They introduced Laura. A rip-roaring crowd who gave her about 60 seconds of applause.

Laura was absolutely wonderful! So gracious. She thanked all the candidates, the musicians (teens), and a professor from U. of O. More about him later.

She praised her husband saying he is a man of great character. And he stood strong during the most historic struggle of our generation -- the 9-11 attacks.

She emphasized that he stands behind families , small business, more jobs for Oregon, No Child Left Behind and the education in Oregon. She talked about research that is being done on how children learn and which programs work best in teaching them the reading and math. This is where the prof from U of O is doing the research! (And he was sitting on the stage, too, behind Laura.

Laura then talked about secondary education and told the story of Kimberly who was going to drop out of school but persevered, attended Chemeketa Community College's nursing program and is now a Registered Nurse! She also was on the stage.

Will continue in the next post.

continuing.........

Laura continued that more small business owners will be hiring becuase of regulation changes that will allow them to not have to pay taxes at the individual rate.

A new figure for today too! 1.7 million jobs have been added. This should increase since Congress extended the tax relief.

She mentioned the Social Security possibilities of change but was also reasuuring.

She then talked about the uninsured people (medical insurance who mostly work for small businesses) and promoted the idea that businesses can band together to get better medical insurance for their employees.

She talked about how patients and doctors should make the medical decisions for treatment not the big businesses or the trial lawyers or the bureaucrats!

She said that W's main priority on this third anniversary of 9-11 is to protect our country. (Why don't the dims get this? -- My comment)

Then she talked about how she and her husband appreciate all the military and their families and all the sacrifices they have made. She said they are all in hers and W's thoughts and prayers. (She is so humble!)

Here's another new number -- maybe you have heard it before, but I never let it register in my brain.

There are 50 million more men women and chilresn who live in freedom today thanks to the United States of American and their allies.

She then mentioned Iraq being free of Saddam Hussein.

"Imagine Allawi president of Iraq sitting with my husband, the president of the United States and talking together."

Great statement!

She gave us a little history lesson too, saying that it took 100 years after the Constitution was written to abolish slavery. And that it was only 84 years ago that women earned the right to vote. These facts prefaced her statement about building a democracy in Iraq and that it takes time!!!!

She said the world is safer and stronger and more hopeful and that her husband will continue to lead.

Plan for a new term

She ended by talking about the 6,000 votes that Gore beat W by in Oregon. She encouraged all Republicans to talk to your friends and register two more people as Republicans -- what a great way to end a great speech. And we would defeat the dimocrats in Oregon. (My mispelling.)

I am not up there with brightness it takes me awhile to think things through.

It scares me to think there is adults out there who seek to do things without thinking the "reality" of the situation through.

It has been all over the press the President has those seeking to harm him, or in this case his wife.

You can't just show up to an event and demand to be let in these days with security issues.

At either campaign rally. Now is these fellows went about getting tickets then sure.

People are going to see right through these silly stunts.

Oh I saw an ad for GW on tv today and it addressed the border issues and was clear and consise even drawing lines from one point to another showing interaction.

Very good ad for the avg. Jo wanting to understand where the Prez stands.

We had a black woman running for State Rep. and she lost. Can't think of her name, we went to her fund raiser because Alan Keyes was the speaker supporting her.

That was JACKIE WINTERS. I contributed to her campaign, too. She would have been a fabulous Congresswoman. I'm very much hoping she will run again!

We need to really get behind Zupancic's campaign, too. Hooley just has to GO. She does NOT represent Oregonians, she represents only her party.

Thanks I saw her sitting behing the First Lady on the news tonight of the rally.

She along with her husband wrote a book of their life, I believe they met at one of the first Doerchester Conf.

She would have been a great rep.

She came across as being able to relate to the moderates along with the conservatives. We attended her dessert in Salem and did the lawn signs.

Jackie Winters was there and was one of the big wigs sitting on the stage. I didn't have a chance to go up and talk with her, but my husband knew her well since he worked on another person's campaign and met her then.

**She does NOT represent Oregonians, she represents only her party.**

So true. We need to call Hooley incessantly. They throw away the written letters and faxes and delete the emails -- bummers!

A note about the email I sent her yesterday about the Federal Marriage Ammendment.

When I went to her website she had no category regarding family life and/or marriage, so I had to choose health.

In my response to her I noted this weakness and went ahead (as a constituent) to voice my request for her support for the FMA.

She definitely does NOT represent me!
