" . . . illegal immigrants who aren't licensed to drive but otherwise obey the law."
This has to be a test of just how gullible Americans are.
This deserves a "just damn!".
How many drunks do they really catch compared to the enrichment of the city coffers through the enforcement of petty rules and regulations against otherwise orderly law abiding folks?
I assume that there is no need to italicize, underline, or otherwise highlight the glaring inconsistency in this statement.

So, if we're going to concede that you shouldn't face legal trouble if you've got no license but otherwise obey the law, we must do away with driver's licenses. The equal protection caluse demands it.
I am so glad I live thousands of miles away from that place where arresting a criminal is somehow racism.
From the post: "illegal immigrants who aren't licensed to drive but otherwise obey the law - "
But - but - but - I thought illegal meant they were already breaking a law - ?
This shows what people get when they blindly give them power -
Mexico is expanding -
I guess they should pack up and go home to parts south like messyco, or even further south. The sooner the better!
"new guidelines". No problem. If you find they are illegal you just let them pass. See, simple solutions can be found for every problem. I learned this from Oregon.
Ugh! This reminds me of somethign that happened here in Ohio a couple of weeks ago. An arsonist started a fire that killed 10 people in an apartment, all Mexicans. The fireman rescued many people, but could not get to these ones and kept those who were trying to go in from doing so. Ahh, but just a couple of days later the "hispanic leaders" are out now and saying that the police and fire need to "reach out" to the hispanic community because there was no understanding when they got there(because some folks did not speak English) of what was going on. Imagine that, our paid public servants need to reach out to spanish speaking immigrants(likely illegal). How about the visiting Mexicans learn English, at least basic English, so in times of emergency they can communicate with emergency services. Another call was for them to "reach out" because these immigrants are hesitant to call on authorities for help--well gee, I guess it doesn't help when you are here illegally with invalid paperwork. Everything that was being put on the cops and fireman as their responsibility rested squarely with that community, but the misplaced call to reach out was disgusting.
Sorry for my tangent, but this just reminded me of how the pc brigade came out for their agenda in the wake of this tragedy.
While I DO NOT agree with the arguement given for this, I have had a serious issue with road blocks like these since I first became aware of them.
We as a society, are supposed to believe in the concept of 'innocent until proven guilty'. Roadblocks are a manifestation of 'guilty until proven innocent'. I object.
If there is a serious crime and felons are known to be on the run in a localized area, I support roadblocks. I do object to roadblocks that are used to troll for violators of DUI, seatbelt laws, registrations and proof of insurance.
Throw the book at DUI operators when they are caught. Leave the rest of us alone.
One of the worst problems with DUI drivers, is that the state and local governments allow them back on the street violation after violation. You don't need roadblocks to end this. Throw them in jail for a year the first time, and DUIs will practically cease.
Second offense, make it five years. End of story...
Again and again illegal aliens are given a free pass. We must have valid drivers' licenses and insurance to be able to drive or else we must go to court and pay fines. What about them?
Chief Word needs to get some angry phone calls from citizens.
If you believe this guy I've got a good price for you on a rather large bridge over the bay.
If they otherwise obey the law then they should have been on a bus. I have been through DUI checkpoints, no problems there.
It should also be noted, PER THE USSC DUI CHECKPOINTS MUST BE ADVERTISED AND HAVE WRITTEN RULES OF CONTACT! This objection is pure BS.
The invasion continues, endorsed by both political parties and government leaders everyhwere.
So they're in violation of both the Vehicle Code AND IMMIGRATION LAW.
But apart from that, they're law-abiding.
Maybe I shouldn't have been lazy and posted the long version of this story instead. Click here:http://www.trivalleyherald.com/Stories/0,1413,86~10669~2428328,00.html
