Between father and son [Ellen Goodman: Conservative parents don't 'nuture'.]
The Boston Globe ^ | September 26, 2004 | By Ellen Goodman

Posted on 09/26/2004 5:27:13 AM PDT by johnny7

SOMETIMES I wonder what it must be like when the presidential son comes to Kennebunkport for a visit. Does George the Younger tell George the Elder what he tells the country? Does he say that we are safer with Saddam in prison than in power? Does he insist that we are better off having overthrown the dictator rather than containing him? I suspect it might be just a splash awkward. After all, it was dad who decided not to topple the Iraqi when he was on the run. It was George the 41st who believed that the chaos might be worse than containment. When another and another car bomb goes off in Baghdad, does this most discreet father ever want to say: I told you so?

I suspect the main difference between liberals and conservatives is that the latter know who there father is.

This is what made me laugh out loud. I had the wrong thing on the clipboard..PLEASE kindly disregard the previous post, and I promise I will get more coffee before posting again.

Yes it's true. It was all over the Boston papers back then, impossible to find now.

It is sad to think that someone was raised to believe the course of history could be changed by a single suicide.

I suppose someone with access to Lexus-Nexus could find the story.

Your memory serves you correctly: her son did commit suicide, I believe he actually set himself on fire in Harvard Square. Gee, he must have felt really nurtured, God forgive me. V's wife

I hurt for families where there is a suicide. But there is still no excuse for Ellen Goodman's stupid, ignorant recent column. Oh heck, in 10 years, I've yet to find one sign of intelligence in any of her columns, truth be told. She writes from this psuedo-compassionate angle, and spouts utter BS.

Why do "progressives" always project their worst qualities and traits onto conservatives? Who is less diverse than they are? Who is less tolerant? You cares about families less? Who is less nurturing? Who cares about innocent life less? They have turned hypocrisy into a genuine science!

And the Boston Globe pays this ditz money for this meandering imagining? This anti-US wishful thinking? Ellen Goodman thinks she can win the heart and mind of a killer who wants to cut her head off? I'd really like to see her try that.

Why do "progressives" always project their worst qualities and traits onto conservatives?

Because liberals live in the past of pagan beliefs and philosophies. Liberals assert they live in "civility" with Conservatives; but it is only because Liberals have assigned the old "filth eater" social function (of old, defunct societies) to conservatives.

In some old cultures, an "outcast" is assigned to bear the weight of evil of that culture, away. And this is why liberals pretend to clamor for "older, simpler ways" while pretending to label themselves as "progressives".

Meanwhile, liberals cover their tracks by "pretending" to not acknowledge the existence of evil in the world. They are indeed, ghouls: gathered around the bedside of a deceased friend or relative, hiding their eyes, while the "filth-eater" arrives to carry away their sins.

Mizzzz Goodman was very nurturing toward her adopted son, which is why he self-immolated out at UMass before Gulf War I.

Maybe he was just trying to change his major to meta-physics.

A point to be made is this; George HW Bush was a good president. George W Bush is a great president. Their conversations must include some, perhaps unspoken, recognition of this. I don't think HW has any doubts about the performance of his son. I know I don't

Nevertheless, the president's insistence that the world is safer without Saddam is a powerful political position for one reason: It can't be disproved.

Yet, they keep on trying.

In a small handbook for progressives...

LOL! With a red cover no doubt.

I think the war in Iraq is a dangerous distraction from the war on terror. The president's rosy view is as fanciful as his Mission Accomplished. But he has framed the issue of security so powerfully that many Americans can hardly hear the din of suicide bombs.

Oh, how I would dearly love to dump this self rightious be-ach right smack dab in the middle of Fallujah, far from the smuggy and condescending, nuancy east coast. I'd love to watch her expression as that giant wave of Terror War in Iraq crashes down on her with full force, washing away her nurtured and nuanced attitude.

I couldn't hope to get away with that one...

Should we somehow lose America to Muslim terrorists (yeah, right) Goodman will be the first person they rape and disembowel. It would be funny to be a fly on the wall and watch the Muslims stone to death the ACLU, the NEA, and the editors and journalists first. What a pathetic woman. And the liberal glitterati of the Peoples Communist Republic of Massachusetts love this stupid broad. God, I'd love to see these bastards get what they deserve!

No, metesky, I'm afraid not. However, it does remind me of an exchange I once had many years ago...

Me: So what do they study to become para-legals?
Friend: Para-Law.

"Nuanced" means "it's OK for a liberal to lie."

T'would seem to me that she draws painful attn to her own child's tragic end when she writes to criticize other parents, particularly on bogus political grounds.

"After all, it was dad who decided not to topple the Iraqi when he was on the run."

It appears Ms. Goodman is a fan of Michael Moore's... that is one of his primary current talking points.

Come on, they still insist that we armed Saddam (with MIG's and Mirages apparently) and trained Bin Laudin.

Surely you do not expect them to tell the truth when their propaganda has been so effective?

If you had nurturing parents like Ellen, you'd have been aborted in the womb.
