KANDAHAR, Afghanistan — Afghan security forces killed a senior Taliban () commander and two of his comrades in a raid in southern Afghanistan, an official said Sunday.

Maulvi Abdul Ghaffar, reportedly a former inmate at the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay (), Cuba, died in a gunbattle Saturday night in Pishi, a village in the southern province of Uruzgan, said Jan Mohammed Khan (search), governor of Uruzgan.

This why we should not have let the prisoners at Gitmo go home. It is also why there is a resurgence in the Taliban. So next time your Democratic acquaintances tell you that Bush let the Taliban retake Afghanistan, tell them that the liberals who demanded the Gitmo prisoners be released are responsible for the resurgence of the Taliban.
