Official: Senior Taliban Commander and former Guantanamo POW Killed in Afghanistan

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan — Afghan security forces killed a senior Taliban () commander and two of his comrades in a raid in southern Afghanistan, an official said Sunday.
Maulvi Abdul Ghaffar, reportedly a former inmate at the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay (), Cuba, died in a gunbattle Saturday night in Pishi, a village in the southern province of Uruzgan, said Jan Mohammed Khan (search), governor of Uruzgan.

The governor said Ghaffar had been a senior Taliban commander in northern Afghanistan and was arrested about two months after the U.S.-led coalition drove the militia out of power in late 2001. He spent eight months at the U.S. detention facility in Guantanamo Bay before he was returned to Afghanistan
Don't you just hate it when we release an innocent person form Gitmo and he ends up dead.

There may be some logic to catch and release...
After you let them go, track them. After they lead you to more of their type, attack them.
Maybe we should start a rumor that at Gitmo they've had tracking devices planted in their bodies, or that our predator drones now can track a unique heat signature of each former prisoner. If that rumor takes hold the Talibammers will kill their own.
