Iran said today it has successfully test-fired a long-range "strategic missile" and delivered it to its armed forces, saying it is now prepared to deal with any regional threats and even the "big powers."

Iran's new missiles can reach London, Paris, Berlin and southern Russia, according to weapons and intelligence analysts.

Iraq was about to go nuclear too. They also had already developed tons of nasty anthrax and other bad stuff. Some of which was destroyed, the rest of which had likely been shuttled off to Syria prior to our invasion.

Sucessfully test-fired?

If they have sucessfully launched this sucker at anything like the ranges they are claiming it would have been detected and tracked. Has anyone heard anything about such a test flight?

"Once they detect Israel launching a strike... bye bye tel aviv and Baghdad."

They would have to detect it first.

We could hire the Russian sturgeon fleet to do the job!

In any case, we have these gumbahs in Azerbaijan ~ and the whole thing gets even more complex from that point on.

The UK did away with its free fall nukes back in 1998. The last operator of the UK produced WE177s was the RAF Tornado fleet. The only nukes in UK service are with the Royal Navy's submarine launched ballistic missile fleet.

This is a very dodgy worldnet piece. Nothing like scaremongering and rumours. Their most capable missile is the Shahab 3. The do not have ICBM capability.

Your first post was just fine. Interesting and well worth discussing: How to justify Iraq in the light of NK and Iran's nuclear ambitions. Well, I don't think we've been sitting on our hands vis a vis NK or Iran. A large explosion at a railroad siding in NK a few months back killed a bunch of Syrians who weren't tourists. Something nuclear was destroyed because they cleaned up the site in hazmat suits after changing their story about what happened and how many died about five times. This was no accident. This was one of the victories GW told us we wouldn't know about.

That mushroom cloud in NK recently? A state department spokesman (tongue in cheek?) suggested a forest fire, but NK chopped down its trees and sold them to China for firewood long ago. After a long pause, NK said they'd blown up a mountain for a hydroelectric project. Maybe so, maybe not. We seemed to be curiously uninterested in testing for radiation fallout, etc. Move right along, nothing to see here....

Brave men and women of various nationalities are risking their lives, under cover, every day for freedom. Plus there's more than one way to skin a cat, and remember, we have technical weaponry that would make your jaw drop. It was posited that by next year we'd be able to pinpoint one person from space and take him out, no matter where he was in the world. We reveal such things only when necessary,(Stealth fighters, the world's biggest bunker busting bomb...30,000 lbs.)

Tough though Iraq has been in many ways, esp. when we could smash Fallujah, etc. in minutes if we chose to, it was the decent thing to do. History will speak of this era and the US as unique. Perilous times and the US and allies spilling their blood and freeing millions of people to bring them out of poverty, despair, and hideous violence. Don't forget, GW is one heck of a poker player. As for Iran, for sure the clock is ticking, and Israel's warned us they'll act if we don't. We may not have the luxury of waiting until after the election. Nobody wants to see innocent Iranians die, but nukes in the hand of those lunatic mullahs is unthinkable. Whatever, take heart. GW will do what's necessary, and soon.

You forgot to say about Israel's 3 German built Dolphin class SSKs which are known to be armed with a land attack cruise missile, the Popeye Turbo. Moreover,Israel's new dual seat F-16Is have larget fuel tanks & was acquired specifically for targetting Iran,Libya or if need be Pakistan.I would agree with you that any Israeli operation against Iran would be far more messy than 1981 & would require a triad of special forces, air strikes & cruise missiles to have a decent chance of success, you cannot rule out the Israelis launching one-from the looks of it,Washington does'nt seem interested. So may as well,go it alone.

Pakistan,Iraq & Bahrain all have substantial Shiite populations & have always been volatile with frequent Shiite-Sunni clashes-I don't think the governments there will risk direct support to any anti-Iran action.Besides Pakistan, along with China & North Korea has been active in Iran's military expansion........The Iranians do not have the military might to even think of standing up to the US,but they sure have thousands of blokes through out the ME,including the non-Shiite countries, waiting to blow themselves up to get their 72 virgins.

No need though, they'll be able to walk right in, if they want.

I have been saying that for several months now.

Iran is next, and we are in place to do it.

But, we WILL need a draft for that one.

Maybe they will finally let old farts like me back in then!??!

"Can British missiles reach Tehran?"

Well put. I can hear Winston Churchill laughing in his grave.

Looking at this am's news, Syria's already put a finger to the wind and senses GW will win. Hence removal of forces from parts of Lebanon, closing of Hamas offices, and perhaps a hint where we or Israel could find that Hamas leader they took out last night. Things are swinging our way even now.

This is a more insightful, succinct analysis than you get watching fifty TV policy shows.

We will be at war with Iran in less than 16 months--that is, before the date that we believe they can explode their first nuke.

The defeatist pro-Kerry crowd who thinks we should leave Iraq is evidently too naive to understand that the game is far, far larger than overthrowing Saddam or promoting democracy in Iraq. Because of the election, and because he does not want to spook our allies, especially in Europe, Bush cannot publicly acknowledge the Iranian threat in specific terms. But if you closely read his speeches on preemptive defense, it is obvious what the long-range concern is. Whether or not Iraq has WMD any longer, Iran will have them shortly, and the Iranian leaders are at least as crazed as Saddam.

It is no accident that we have Iran covered from the west, the east, and from the Gulf.

My experience with many of these British pacifist wieners is they could care less. Liberals on Ecademy, which is run and infested by these "blokes," excoriated me for telling the TRUTH about some of the "mosquefuls of hate" predominant in that country. Their own liberal press, and I don't mean the scandal sheets, acknowledge the existence of them and their hate preachers, yet they do nothing. So, with all due respect to the fine and brave British soldiers with whom I served and who now serve, the sad fact is many of those liberal peacenik-at-any-cost liberals could care less if Teheran wiped out their country. Of course you can be sure that any survivors would be in church afterwards praying for some conservative to save them.
