Today, our son got a letter from the President :^) We adopted our son from South Korea in 2001. Apparently, the White House will send "welcome letters" to children who have been adopted. Here is the text of the letter:
"Dear (child's name),
Welcome to your new home! Your arrival has brought great joy to your proud family.
As you grow, I encourage you to help your neighbors, set high standards, and follow your dreams. Your kindness to others and commitment to excellence can strengthen your community and our Nation.
Mrs. Bush joins me in sending our best wishes to you and your parents. May the coming years be filled with happiness, health, and much love.
Sincerely,
George W. Bush"
Here's the REALLY cool part.....it has his REAL signature...written in bold black marker. I do not know how we got this letter. Someone has to ask for it and we didn't know anything about it. Someone must have requested one for us. :^) It is called a "welcome greeting". We'll definitely be framing this letter! What a nice surprise!
If wish to request a letter from the president for your adopted child, write a letter similar to the one below:
Dear President Bush,
We would appreciate it if you would send a letter of greeting to my child, (put your child's full name here). He is adopted from (country) and arrived in the USA on (date) AND became a US citizen on (date).
His address is:
child's name
address
city state zip
Sincerely,
(Your name)

We think differently than Normal Humans.
My wife is still mad that she didn't get her pic with then TX Governor GW Bush when he visited her college, She shook his hand!
well thats so sweet it made me tear up ...
God Bless your sweet family :)
Dear (name of child), Welcome to the new home purchased with government insured loans. Congratulations on surviving our abortion plauged culture. As you grow, I encourage you to help your neighbors even if they are on the dole and refuse to work, set standards that won't make other kids feel inferior, and avoid following dreams which are unattainable unless you were born into the elite classes like yours truly. Paying high taxes without complaint can strengthen your community and our Nation. Mrs. Kerry joins me in sending our best wishes to you and your parents.
That letter absolutely made my day.
That letter is just too darned cute! Looks like you're raising your grandson right. Let's hope that both our boys never veer to the left! ;^)
It sure made mine when I found out what he was doing.
He had it already sealed, and I got him to open it so I could copy it so he would always have it.
At 10 years old he knows more truth about the political climate in this country than most liberals.
Thanks
:>)
A good friend of mine is the brand new "Grammie" of a beautiful little girl from China. Have forwarded your info to her. Many thanks for the post!
After the birth of both our daughter I sent a note to the White House and sure enough the letters came. The first one took a couple of months and the second took quite a few months. They also do it for major anniversaries (50th and so on). I think you can find out the info from the White House website - they make great gifts!
"First off, congrats on the new baby! : ) "
Thanks, and after I read this thread, I immediately requested a greeting from the white house for my new daughter Margot. It arrived today:
"Welcome! The day you were born will always be a special day, celebrated with love and joy. We wish you a happy and healthy future.
Sincerely,
George Bush Laura Bush"
The signatures are in pen ink, but like another poster said, it could be an auto-pen. I choose to believe they actually signed it, and that's what I'll tell Margot. I read it to her today, and she started crying; it was hilarious.
