My 3 1/2 year old son got a letter from "W"!

Posted on 09/25/2004 11:09:38 AM PDT by kimchi lover

Today, our son got a letter from the President :^) We adopted our son from South Korea in 2001. Apparently, the White House will send "welcome letters" to children who have been adopted. Here is the text of the letter:

"Dear (child's name),
Welcome to your new home! Your arrival has brought great joy to your proud family.
As you grow, I encourage you to help your neighbors, set high standards, and follow your dreams. Your kindness to others and commitment to excellence can strengthen your community and our Nation.
Mrs. Bush joins me in sending our best wishes to you and your parents. May the coming years be filled with happiness, health, and much love.

Sincerely,
George W. Bush"

Here's the REALLY cool part.....it has his REAL signature...written in bold black marker. I do not know how we got this letter. Someone has to ask for it and we didn't know anything about it. Someone must have requested one for us. :^) It is called a "welcome greeting". We'll definitely be framing this letter! What a nice surprise!
If wish to request a letter from the president for your adopted child, write a letter similar to the one below:

Dear President Bush,
We would appreciate it if you would send a letter of greeting to my child, (put your child's full name here). He is adopted from (country) and arrived in the USA on (date) AND became a US citizen on (date).

His address is:

child's name
address
city state zip

Sincerely,

(Your name)

Very cool. Give your little one a hug from me and my wife! : )

When my wife and I married back in July of 2001, a friend of ours sent a similar style of request to the White House. It's now a bittersweet memory that we received our congratulatory letter from President Bush and First Lady Laura on September 10th, 2001.

Big thumbs up to all adoptive parents!

A friend, who's husband is in Iraq, got a call from Bush thanking them for his service. He calls several people every day. He's a good man.

Probably an autopen signature, but still very very nice to have.

Congrats.

Congratulations on the son and the letter. We've got such a real, honest President, and it's little things like this that make the difference between him and the war criminal so clear.

I just had a baby a week ago. Do you think I could ask for a letter for her?

Wow that is neat!

My Grandson wrote a letter to President Bush when he was about 8

On his own he asked his Third Grade Teacher if he could write a letter to the President, and she got the address for him.

The Envelope

And the mailing...

Didn't mean to hijack your thread...

First off, congrats on the new baby! : )

And to answer your question: of course! Send the baby's name, address, and birthdate to:

The White House
Attn: Greetings Office
Washington, D.C. 20502-0039

See http://www.whitehouse.gov/greeting/ for more details.

Dear (child's name)

You'd think, in order to make it look better, they'd actually put the kid's name in... ;0)

Awwwww....you guys are so sweet! I'm all teary reading your congrats notes. We are blessed, indeed.
Auto-pen, real pen, who cares? All I know is that I am thankful that we have a president who has a heart for adoption.
I cannot BEGIN to describe how thankful we are to be able to be mommy and daddy to our precious little boy. If any of you desire to adopt a child from Korea, the process is usually very smooth, the babies get EXCELLENT medical care and they are cared for in foster families(not orphanages) till they come home. Our son's foster family still love him. We send letters and pictures to them about 5 times a year. Last time I saw them, they begged me to bring our son back to Korea to visit them. They told us we could stay at their house. I KNOW we will be going back. What a special time that will be!

Yeah, probably an autopen. Although I read somewhere that the President actually signs about 1% of the letters that go out, so you never know if it's real or not. I haven't seen websites for Bush's signatures, but there are websites out there that have Reagan's autopen signatures catalogued, and you can see which autopen you got, or if it's real sig.
