As an American of Arabic descent, I find this headline distasteful. My family came here from Syria (at least it was Syria then, now it's Lebanon) in the late 1800's and early 1900's in order to escape the same Muslim persecution against Christians that is occuring in the Middle East today. My grandfather served as a dentist on a hospital ship in WWII, giving 20 years to this country. My father lied about his age so that he could enlist at 16 years of age to fight that same war. He also served in Korea. My uncle has 64 shrapnel wounds all over his body from a mortar attack he survived in Vietnam. And you, sir, dare challenge whether we are loyal? Go to hell, my dear fellow. Go straight to hell.
Your ignorance of Arabs is immense. Not all Arabs are Muslims, and not all Muslims are terrorists. Your desire to pigeonhole an entire race of people smacks of the worst kind of bigotry, the kind of bigotry decent-minded Christians and conservatives can do without.
I happen to be a Christian, but I have an Arabic last name. Since 9/11 my children have been referred to as "sand niggers" by other children, probably your chioldren, in their school. Now you ask me if I am loyal? I have been a Republican all my life, but to be considered the same as the likes of you turns my stomach. It really does.
His headline was written poorly, I agree, but throughout the article the author clearly is referring to Arab-muslims, not Arabs in general. I would hope nobody on these forums would discriminate based on the birthplace of ones ancestors.
The question should have read "Muslim Americans" vice "Arab Americans." I believe that one in a thousand Muslim Americans, regardless of their ethnic background are loyal to a particular country. Their loyalty lies with Islam.
That statement was totally wrong. To lump all Arab-Americans in with terrorists or even Muslims is ignorant. I dont think a majority on FR think that way. But I have to admit that I mostly agree with the article about mistrust of American-Muslims. Its hard not to. Theres just to much misunderstatnding on both sides. And to feign trust, just to be nice and PC doesnt fly with alot of Americans. Unfortunatly some people have a hard time keeping that mistrust from spilling over on to others that dont deserve it.
"Not all Arabs are Muslims, and not all Muslims are terrorists"
But... all terrorist in the world today are muslim.
Well Said. Some folks get all worked up and don't think before they make blanket statements. The Arab Christians are fleeing Muslim-controlled countries all over the middle east, where they have suffered under the condition of dhimmitude. It is profoundly wrong to lump in Arab Christians with Muslim jihadis. Joseph Farah, who runs the conservative site World Net Daily, is of Arab descent. No reasonable person would question his loyalty.
Muslims can be of any ethnicity, just like Christians. The war we face is with the Jihadi brach of Islam, which is not a tiny minority within Islam (as Western liberals make-believe), but claims at least 50 percent of the total Islamic population. Still, there are Muslims who are opposed to the horrible jihadis, who will happily murder them along with Christians and Jews.
This question troubles many people. It should have read "Are American Muslims Loyal to America"?
There are American muslims who are loyal and would never have any part in terror against this nation and it's people. However it is also clear that there are muslims in this country who are not loyal to this country and support jihad and terror against the people of this country.
So it is a very real question to many people!
Are we safe? No!
Are there muslims living and visiting here who want to kill in the name of alah? Yes!
AND if, so many muslim Americans are loyal to the US and in no way support terror, why are they so silent against the muslim terror that is killing and plotting to kill people all over the world? They should be in the forefront of speaking out and acting against Islamic terror!
We do have a right to know what side all Americans are on, this is a time of war and we have been attacked from within.
Yes many of us question muslims and question Islam, because all we know of both is violence and death!
If your arguement is that the US or western society has brought this upon themselves, save it, we are not interested in excuses for terror and those who in the name of Islam butcher those who do not and will never follow alah.
Now you and your family sound like fine Americans, but I ask why did you not express any anger or words of opposition to the terrorists, and only expressed those feelings to the poster of this thread and his opinion?
This is what we want to here from muslims, from Arabs....it is not that you are in military or are a Republican, but that you will stand up and speak and act against these terrorists who are all muslim and many who are Arab.
Christians of Arab ancestry include such great people as Joseph Farah, Danny Thomas abd General Abizaid, among others. The new wave of MUSLIM immigrants is another story.
