Thought a thread in Breaking News for the weekend covering Hurricane Jeanne would be a good thing. Post your link, pics, updates and freeper check-in's here
Water about to get in my school....flooding is bad here.
Yikes!!!!!!!!
It's clouded over here, and the winds has picked up - but still no rain.
If the worst of it stays west of me, the poor folks in Richmond are in for another dousing. and I don't wish it on anyone.
Dang, Gabz...my daughters live there and younger one was caught in all that mess with Gaston....she was about washed away in her car.
I remember you talking about your daughters and the problems with Gaston.
As the day progresses, I'm less concerned about weather problems here, there seems to be less and less chance of us getting much more than some rain.
And if it starts up in the next hour or so and roads get bad, school will hold the kids and the buses until it becomes safe.
According to the National Weather Service, some parts of Patrick County have been hit by more than 12 inches of rain by the remnants of Hurricane Jeanne.
Pictures taken about three hours ago from the top of the building in which I teach. In the third one, a co-worker is talking to me on the cell phone. My principal took the pics.
From the looks of those pix, I don't think you're going to be doing any teaching tomorrow.
Live camera on Chincoteague shows the water is getting a bit rough, we've got sustained 19mph wind, with gusts of 30mph. And radar doen't look like anything else is coming this way - it's all going to go north before crossing the Chesapeake.
We have been under a Flash Flood Warning all day here in Loudoun County. Probably a few inches of rain just this morning. Fortunately, I am not in a flood zone. Hope you are fairing well. A little more rain and this thing should be out of here!
We've been under flash flood warnings and watches since yesterday - and have hardly gotten any rain at all. I don't know what it is, but it seems I'm going to have dodged the bullet once again.
I'm not in a flood zone per se, but many of the roads in Accomack County do quickly flood when we get some hard rain.
You are just too far east of this. We needed rain, but this has been a little much.
I don't wish it on any one - but with the amount of rain we've gotten the past 6 - 8 months, I'm a happy camper. This is probably about the longest stretch we have been without since I don't know when - and it's been less than 2 weeks!!!
I absolutely love Chincoteague. I had my favorite vacation there several years ago. We caught 40+ flounder in a few hours fishing off the sound side in a small boat. You can bet what we didn't eat I froze and brought home with me! It was eaten before long.
Last Wednesday I caught a 21 inch flounder off the sound side in a small boat. The guys were none too happy that the girl got the first and biggest fish! We only had 2 keepers, we had to throw everything else back. I may not like some of the size limits, but I adhere to them VERY strictly.
In the 18 months we've lived here that was the first time we went out on the water, we generally surf fish on the Chesapeake side. I really have the best of all worlds here - I'm practically dead center - 15 minutes to the bayside water and 15 minutes to the seaside! And far enough from the poultry processing plants to not even notice them!
We stuck to the guidelines, too... We were there to see the pony swim (very crowded time) so it must have been good fishing weather. I'd love to visit this time of year. I loved Assateague, too.
Pony Week is fun. We didn't go this year, even though hubby took that week off for vacation, because it rained the entire week.
This time of year is wonderful, because everything is pretty much still open and there is so much to see (I also love all the neat shops) and it is not terribly crowded. I like Assateague in November. I just remembered, I need to renew my annual pass. $15 for the year with unlimited access, what a bargain.
The rain has finally arrived here on the Eastern shore and the wind has picked up as well. I've had to close most of my windows because of the amount of water coming in.
But the radar has the worst of it north of me, and this not lasting very long. YEAH!!!!!
Oh, GOOD!! The wind picked up here for a little while, but then quietened down. It wasn't a factor with what we had.
The wind hasn't died down - but it's not raining anymore.........still heavy clouds....I think the worst of it is gone.
My daughter is not real thrilled with stoms and just asked if she can sleep with me tonight...............sheesh - she just got a new bed (furniture delivery was here and gone before the rain started!)
