Latest poll shows Castor with 43%, Martinez with 42%
That's an awful ot of undecideds. Shouldn't we win this one?
ot=lot.
I dont understand this at all....hope our Cuban Americans come around.
PING!
The hurricanes have driven this race out of the state news. Also, neither candidate is a current statewide office holder, so they don't have universal name I.D. Hopefully, voters will begin to pay attention after Hurricane Jeanne dissapates.
Thanks for the explanation -- it certainly makes good sense.
No one is paying much attention to senate races yet. I believe senate races typically do not firm up until much closer to the election, and they are heavily swayed by the national ticket during presidential election years.
This race will pretty much track the presidential race, I suspect.
You're right. We get so swept up in all aspects of the election here on FR that I do need to remind myself from time to time that not everyone is paying attention.
I'm just thinking of our west coast parallel here in California. I haven't heard a thing about Jones vs. Boxer. I caught their one debate w hile back (where Jones let Boxer lie and demagog her way to victory) only because I saw a notice about it on FR. Absolutely no one is paying attention, which typically helps Democrats.
I don't suspect much attention to these things until after the presidential debates.
Yep, Dems do better when the lights are off. As a former San Gabriel Valley resident, I don't recall Jones exactly being a ball of fire, either. He strikes me as someone the GOP feels has earned his right to be the sacrificial lamb to the Dems.
Jones only got it because Arnold endorsed him as a payback to him endorsing Arnold. That and name recognition.
I voted for Toni Casey in the primary.
Castor has already won a statewide election in Florida. Floridians know her. Floridians don't know Mel Martinez any better than Coloradoans, Vermonters or West Virginians. Castor had a 10 point lead, and has lost it. Figure that the undecideds are moving towards Martinez as they get to know him. I'm moving this state to Lean Republican.
I haven't seen any Martinez ads but have seen several Castor ads.
One was how tough Castor would be on terrorists since she's had experience with one (thought that was a bit of a stretch) and the other was courting veterans.
This race worries me. It would be so great to get a Pubbie like Martinez in the U.S. Senate, especially given the changing demographics in this country.
GO MEL GO!!!
Nonetheless, Mel would be an asset in the Senate. I would love to see him go after the farm staters who seem obsessed with opening Cuba to wheat exports. It bad enough that we coddle up to the Chicoms and the Saudis.
Please check out these posts regarding Castor's "experience" with terrorists:
