Voter's Guide for Serious Christians
Catholic Answers ^

Posted on 09/24/2004 6:07:34 AM PDT by gilliam

This voter’s guide helps you cast your vote in an informed manner consistent with Christian moral teaching. It helps you avoid choosing candidates who endorse policies that cannot be reconciled with moral norms that used to be held by all Christians.

On most issues that come before voters or legislators, the task is selecting the most effective strategy among several possibilities. A Christian can take one side or the other and not act contrary to the faith. Many matters are debatable and do not have a single, clear “Christian position.”

But some issues concern “non-negotiable” moral principles that do not admit of exception or compromise. One’s position either accords with those principles or does not. No one endorsing the wrong side of these issues can be said to act in accord with the Christian faith. . . .

FYI...The USSCB is fighting against this book and is not officially a "Catholic" voter's guide. The bishops disagree with the idea of "non-negotiable" issues and they state that it is not consistent with their teaching.

I'm sure losing tax-exemption status by opposing a specific candidate has nothing to do with it...

they state that it is not consistent with their teaching.

The "non-negotiables" are consistent with Vatican teaching. The USCCB often issues confusing statements. Its bureaucrats often do not clearly state teachings clearly, intentionally, I think.

The voters guide is solidly Roman Catholic.
