Did Kerry Lie about Attending the Signing of the Gulf-War Ceasefire
O'Reilly Factor ^ | 24 Sept 2004 | Rokke

Posted on 09/23/2004 9:18:29 PM PDT by Rokke

I just watched the rerun of O'Reilly's 2001 interview with Kerry discussing the need to invade Iraq. In that interview, Kerry said the following: "I mean, I was in Safwan. I went there when the signing of the armistice took place at the end of the war." I've watched the video of the cease-fire signing at Safwan. It was still in a combat zone. I don't remember seeing anyone but military officers. Can anyone provide additional insight, or has Kerry lied again.

OReilly supports Kerry. I doubt seriously he will look into anything damaging to Kerry. It would be considered "an attack" on Kerry.

I was thinking O'Reilly put it out there for the rest of us to look in to, you know, for fun.

IMHO,

At this point I believe that our default position on ANYTHING J. FLIP-FLOT K. says is that it's a lie until proven otherwise. Fully documented, cross-referenced and verified by at lease 5 independent sources.

I think he meant he was in his Georgetown home, watching the linkup from CNN, which made him feel as if he were in Safwan.

Looks like Kerry lucked out on March 17 according to GlobalSecurity:

Safwan is an Iraqi military facility located 46 km S of Basra. It is an unoccupied emergency dispersal/recovery strip.

Safwan Airfield is located six kilometers west of the intersection near Safwan, in Southeastern Iraq, just north of the Kuwait-Iraq border.

The airfield holds the distinction of having been the location at which the formal cease-fire ceremony took place on March 3, 1991 between Iraqi and Coalition troops.

This is a dry hole. He was there. Give it up.

I disagree. If he had claimed to be on the deck of the Missouri at the signing of the peace treaty that ended WW2, and we learned he was on board 2 weeks later...

Dry hole on "The lie", a gusher for "the embellishment" which clearly is a pattern.

Or........he was in the vincinity! LOL! If he was nearby, I have a feeling our great General probably ordered him to stay away from the signing.

It was a grand opportunity for a photo-op, a Presidential resume, as it were, so probably kerry did fly over-to party in some Kuwait bar. Hoping to get in the end game for a photo-op, but couldn't quite swing that permission thingie. Pretty sure our General knew of Kerry's vote against this war and was not about to let him take credit for being at the surrender table.

Taped O'Relly overnight, and watched this morning. Kerry said he was in Safra, not Safwan

It is amazing how many Freepers believe that the left wing POS O'Reilly is a conservative!

This from an upcoming 60 Minutes show with O'Reilly proving he is a liberal with his own words.

"Friday 09/24/04 Chicago Sun-Times TV columnist Phil Rosenthal says:

"Sunday "60" Minutes.

"These guys, opening their 37th season, are awfully confident they wouldn't make the recent mistakes of their Wednesday spinoff. Tune in this week to hear Fox News Channel's BILL O'REILLY say he's PRO-GUN CONTROL, AGAINST THE DEATH PENALTY, FOR CIVIL UNIONS, MINDFUL OF THE ENVIRONMENT AND OPEN TO POSSIBLY VOTING FOR JOHN KERRY. "I've known Kerry for 25 years. He's a patriot. I'm listening to what he has to say," he tells Mike Wallace."

Yes, Bill we know that you are just another POS Democrat shill for Kerry."

The delegation swooped down in glistening helicopters on the border outpost of Safwan, Iraq, to meet with the US Army's 1st Armored Division, which helped spearhead the allied ground offensive against Iraq and tangled with the Republican Guard.

"It's unbelievable," Sen. John Kerry said, congratulating the troops yesterday. "A lot of those of us who served in Vietnam found a new breath of air in your courage and optimism."

Once a formal cease-fire is signed, the senators said, troops would be heading home.

O'Reilly got his niche on Fox PRETENDING to be an "independent" with conservative leanings. But he's a New York independent, which makes him a socialist. New York elitist Democrats are all Marxist Communists, so to the average New York elitist, O'Reilly is a mad-dog right winger.

He's a wolf in sheep's clothing.

I agree, Kerry wasn't on that side of the tent.

Ya think he was standing behind the photographer - for the first time in his life ?

"Kerry said he was in Safra"

I'm pretty sure he meant Safwan. Since Safra is north of Baghdad, it is certain he wasn't there in 1991.

Kerry's Senate Office records would have his travel, his approval, and his travel reimbursement payments - since he would have been on "official business" to get there during combat, wouldn't they? So, doesn't that open a FOIA request avenue?
