WASHINGTON Congress on Thursday approved a $145.9 billion package of tax relief to extend three popular middle-class tax cuts, giving President Bush his fourth major tax victory since taking office.
The Senate approved the measure 92-3 Thursday night less than an hour after it cleared the House by a similarly lopsided 339-65.

"Kerry and Sen. John Edwards, D-N.C., both out on the campaign trail, did not vote on the tax cut legislation. Other senators not voting were Sens. Daniel Inouye, D-Hawii; Daniel Akaka, D-Hawaii, and Edward Kennedy, D-Mass."
Don't they realize this is going to deprive the government of billions? How in the world are we going to afford entitlements with this huge government giveaway? |
They should be excommunicated by the RNC along with McCain. We don't need these type of Republicans. Also, work on the deficit on another bill! Why are you going to vote against going in the right direction. It makes no sense.
This was a surprise...
When did these tax cuts become an issue....had no idea this was going down.
That's what I'M sayin'!
I got a raise, my health insurance went up, so all I got for my hard work was a higher tax bracket. When does this go into effect?
May I ask what is the rationale behind child tax credits other than a voter attraction scam?
Tax cuts pay for themselves. Reagan showed that tax cuts INCREASE tax revenue for the government. It also helps reduce the need for government wealth redistribution programs because it cuts out the middleman (government) and the middleman's cut of our money.
Aren't these the tax breaks for the rich Kerry has bitxhed about?
Chafee says he isn't voting for GWB either. What a creep!
I am personally against middle class tax cuts. I think tax cuts should be across the board or not at all. It's already too lopsided.
I say Hallelujah. Last year's tax cut was the first since Reagan's that actually lowered my taxes in any appreciable way. And I was very grateful indeed.
Why penalize couples for having children? What is this, China?
They make us use carseats for our kids which means we have to buy bigger cars and then use more gas which means we pay more in gas taxes so they give it back in a child tax credit.
I hope that clears things up.
If someone owns a house they get to deduct much more than a renter, it is an incentive to own a home because home ownership helps America thrive. A man who owns a small business where he is the owner and only employee can deduct the cost of a brand new SUV but a family who's dad works for TI can't deduct the cost of their new one. Its incentive for the small business to thrive so it can grow. Its not as if I am losing money because one person gets a break I don't. I only lose money when they take what I earned to give to someone who didn't.
That ca$h provided needed money for job hunting costs and providing for my family. Thank You George W. Bush for letting me keep more of my money and giving a needed boost to the economy.
Now we need even more of that ca$h back before Congress can spend it and we need at least a partial privization of Social Security. At least let me have a choice of how much interest I can earn on MY MONEY for retirement instead of the lame 1% we get now.
Or, why should children be taxed? They don't earn anything for most of their life while they are dependents.
So? Will all of the liberals who are against tax cuts, especially the liberals from the middle and upper income levels, kindly forward their $1000 per child tax credit to my account? Just wondering?????
>>Don't they realize this is going to deprive the government of billions? How in the world are we going to afford entitlements with this huge government giveaway?<<
What is the cost of FEMA entitlements with this huge government giveaway just for the hurricanes?
Crikey! You've given me an idea...
If we have a tax credit for children, why don't we impose
an additional tax on abortion?
Talk about reducing your federal deficit...
and when the newly-kept kids grow up, they can
pay Social Security taxes!
