TO: All Graduates and Friends of the AOG
SUBJECT LINE: Core Values to be New Words above the Warrior Ramp
Below is information we received from the Academy today regarding the new words to be used above the Warrior Ramp. Because of our commitment to keep the graduate community and our friends informed on recent developments at USAFA, we are distributing this announcement as quickly as possible.
James A. Shaw, 67
Col, USAF (Ret)
President & CEO
Association of Graduates
After the Bring Me Men words were removed from above the Warrior Ramp in March of 2003 the Academy sought to replace the words with a new statement more reflective of the values of our Air Force and Air Force Academy. At the request of the Academy, the Association of Graduates started collecting suggestions in August 2003, completing input in February 2004. The AOG compiled 42 of the suggestions most often cited from the hundreds they received and put them before the Academy Memorial Board. Based on recommendations from the board and approval by the Superintendent the wall will now welcome cadets, staff and visitors with words that have deep roots at the Academy and are most appropriate for the cadet wing: our Air Force Core Values.
Integrity First. Service Before Self. Excellence in All We Do.
The origins of the Air Forces core values are right here at the Academy. Their development began in the early 1980s when the Dean searched for a set of principles to capture the personal standards he wished to enforce. As a result, he arrived at an early expression of the core values involving integrity, service and excellence. In the early 1990s, then-Chief of Staff, General Merrill McPeak, published six Air Force Core Values: integrity, courage, competence, tenacity, service and patriotism.
In an effort to strengthen its character-development efforts, the Academy rejuvenated its core values in 1994 and refined them into Integrity first, Service before self and Excellence in all we do. Subsequently, Air Force Secretary, Sheila Widnall, and Chief of Staff, General Ronald Fogleman, published a policy letter identifying the Air Force Core Values as Integrity first, Service before self and Excellence in all we do.
Our core values will be installed on the wall over the next two days and will be officially dedicated next week at a ceremony during CORONA.
Dedicating the wall as the Core Values Wall truly reflects the standards we strive to uphold at the Academy . . . and across our Air Force.
Who is running our military?
IF PC must rule, how about "Bring me the best" or "Bring me warriors"?
Wow! Sometimes you just never know who Freepers really are.
"former SAC aircraft commander"
Thank you for your service. I could only dream about going to the academy.
This E6 salutes you sir.
LCWB - hi from "Just Passin Thru" ('77)
E6.....well let me tell you, my dad retired as a USAF Master Sergeant with 14 years time in grade. That's right; he made Master in SIX years flat; joined up just after WWII. Not bad for a high school dropout from the sticks (literally) of Mississippi. Think that may still be a record today; he was the youngest MSgt. in AF history.
My mom was Army enlisted. My older brother was Navy enlisted. My younger brother was USAF enlisted. My wife as USAF enlisted (former SSgt.). I was the first officer (and college grad, for that matter) in my family; my oldest son is a recent college grad and 2nd Lt. in the US Army, about to start Ranger training very, very shortly.
As much as I appreciate your kind words, I salute YOU. NCO's are and truly always have been the backbone of the US military.
From one '77 grad to another.......good to see ya, guy. 37th Smilers. Gnu dorm. Sixth floor.
I sewed on E6 in 8 years. 13 was the average.
I feel like that was somewhat of an accomplishment but not a booger fleck compared to some of the Vets on FR.
My deepest respect will always be for the WWII Veterans.
E6 in eight........that kicks ass. Proves once again that FReepers are one hell of an over-achieving lot. Proud to know ya.
Excellent!
A $100,000 education, shoved up your [nose] $5 at a time.
"Bring me Warriors" sounds good to me!
(Lucky dog, please don't bite me on this thread!!)
Pukin Dog, what kind of wimmin are you lookin' for? Lol!
Are you picky? Hahaha!!!
