It's no accident: First lady Laura Bush, at seven campaign stops in the last eight days, has employed exactly the same phrasing to pound in an important theme to the women who crowd her events.
In Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, NJ, Wisconsin and Iowa, Bush acknowledged that the economy, education and health care are important issues. "But as we grieve for the families in Russia and as we mark the third anniversary of September 11th,'' she said, "I believe what's most important is my husband's work to protect our country and to defeat terror around the world. ''
Even in a Democratic stronghold such as California, the first lady's message isn't lost on critical voters such as Rochelle Bird, 35, of Moraga, a working mom who says she's focused on the future of her 5-year-old daughter, Skylar.
"I have recently become a soccer mom -- and I'm a security mom, too,'' said Bird, a registered Republican and senior field representative with the state Assembly. "I take the job seriously, and I expect my president to take it seriously.
"When I tuck my daughter in bed at night, I want to know that my president is watching my back and keeping me safe,'' says Bird, a strong supporter of President Bush. "If (our political leaders) are not doing that, what else are they good for?''
Those sentiments concern D.C.-based Gloria Feldt, president of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, as she goes door- to- door this week as part of her organization's nationwide effort to reach women in potentially pivotal states such as Ohio.
"There's no question the Bush administration is playing the fear card as much as they possibly can ... to keep attention off his dismal record on the many policies that women care about -- not just reproductive rights,

Soccer moms score a goal.
I mean if Beslan Russia taught us anything it is that terrorists are cruel and inhumane when our childrens lives and liberty are at risk we as a nation must bear any burden and pay any cost to defeat the problem. Complaining about the cost of the war shows John Kerry willing to put a price on our childrens very freedom. That is totally against the Constitution. The government has a Constitutional responsibility to "Ensure the blessings of liberty" for our children.

Fear card, my foot!! (Country Expression) The basic nature of women, over and above anything else it to seek strong males to protect them and their children from harm. It is a basic instinct given to us for survival. It can be found from caveman days forward..Evidently, the above quote was from a woman who does not care about the survival of children except in cases convenient to her own selfish goals. Women know that without basic security and protection, they and their children will have no rights at all and might not even survive physically. I predict we will see a female landslide for President Bush. He is a strong male and he will protect women in every sense but most especially in the most basic sense of survival itself.
This of course won't be the first time a powerful (liberal) male has been spared while his underling female gets the axe. Women could finally realize that the party of feminism won't protect them in the workplace either.
The Clinton/Monica fiasco only killed the NOW gang, the coming hypocritical silence from the party of feminism may loosen once and for all their hold on the female voter.
I think we should have an ad showing the Muslim terrorist attack on the Russian school. Is this what we want to happen in the USA?
Kerry is trying to fight this trend by saying to women: George Bush will draft your sons and daughters into a war and I won't.
Look at the quote you provided. This woman takes it as a given that "reproductive rights," A.K.A. the right to get rid of inconvenient babies, is formost in the mind of all women voters.
Actually those soccer mom's who are pro-abortion would be well-advised to go with Bush. It's a long shot for Roe v Wade to ever be overturned anyway.
Overturning Roe v Wade does not mean an end to abortion any way. It means the abortion question goes back to being a matter to be settled on the state levle. Abortion will always be available in NY, California, and Massachussettes.
Right - worst case is they get into a car and drive to a nearby state that allows it.
BTTT
Security moms are EVERYWHERE. And I live in the battleground of battlegrounds, the Philadelphia suburbs.
You are correct, even if Roe vs. Wade is overturned abortions will continue. I work part time at a health food store. Someone was trying to get 2 items from us the other night that are commonly used for (homemade) abortion. An herb to abort the baby, and 100% peroxide to disolve the remains. We had neither.
9/11 converted our DIL and most of the young mothers we know into conservatives. They don't want their babies killed by some Islamofascist while the Rats play PC games with them and us.
