CBS Source's Attorney: "Bill Burkett Just Got Burnt by Dan Rather"
TexasInsider.org ^ | 9-22-04

David Van Os said that it was CBS’ intention from the outset to cast Bill Burkett in an unfavorable light. “Dan Rather and CBS were intending all along to use the interview to dump on (Burkett),” Van Os said. “What we got was a bunch of mealy-mouthed bull****.”

Van Os said that Burkett had to think long and hard about what to do with the documents in his possession. “Bill was very reluctant to give CBS the documents; because he did not want to become caught up in what he knew would be created if he did,” Van Os said.

“Bill did not go to CBS, CBS came to him. CBS spent all summer trying to pressure and coax Bill into letting them have copies of the documents that they believed he had

Wow van Os has such a way with words. one can see why he is a premier RAT lawyer. But the content is fascinating.

So Burkett got the docs under cloak and dagger arrangements eith no KNOWN source. and CBS (and apparently Kerry or the DNC kneww hae had thena dn what he had. Pretty good bet he was fed them by the Campaign or terrible terry in collusion with mape and rather. he was simply a patsy source for them to use for funneling this freadulent story.

So--CBS/DNC--who typed the docs????

Van Os is a loyal Rat and he sayus it was not them (Os and Burkett)

If you could trust this guy any more than you can trust Rather or Burkett you could really get some mileage here. But since it is ALL SPIN, it is useless info.

Where did you hear Burkett has epilepsy? I must have missed that.

Has Burkett given any hint where he got the documents? I heard some Barbara Striesand story about a strange man handing him an envelope at
the Houston Fat Stock Show in March.

I think most of us believe he typed them himself.

Sorry, Burkett is no victim. He had a pile of dog poop that he wanted to dump on our president.

"CBS spent all summer trying to pressure and coax Bill into letting them have copies of the documents "

IMHO, this coaxing was also probably the reason for the phone call from Lockhart. It was a tacit green light to Burkett that he had the go ahead from the Kerry campaign to give the documents to CBS. I doubt that Lockhart came out and directly told Burkett to release the docs.

Lockhart may have just said something like "Yes, Bill, we need to be aggressive in responding to the Swift Vets". But both he and Burkett knew the context and Burkett would have been able to read Lockhart's "between the lines" meaning.

Yup it was CBS's fault, Burkett was smart to burn the originals he received at the Livestock show and then not have his attorney contact a document examiner himself to authenticate them..oh it wasn't Burkett's fault that the docs had so many real errors also that he should have known about by comparing them to others ot the time period/sarcasm.

typical dem victim..

Maybe he will roll over big time now...hmm where was Van Os advice all this time, you know like turn the docs over to the FBI not the media...after all they were only copies, he could keep some if he thought the FBI might "cleanse them" Who told Burkett to lie, Van Os? Burkett had all summer to come up with a source why pull one out of the air at the last minute? Would they have gotten aired if the "real" source had been told to CBS? Fraud.

I still think Rather and the DNC got something up their sleeve, this was too easy. These organizations have "slush" funds for just about any purpose (take a hint from the movie: Wag the Dog)
Of course the timing and everything coordinated with Fortunate Son, every thing was too easy. Call me paranoid, but I'm waiting for another shoe to drop. I've dealt with the press-media and they were a lot sharper than what we've seen so far. They must think we'll be so busy patting ourselves on the back we'll forget to pull the lever come November. Stay sharp, the lives of our grandchildren depend on it.

I'm with you on the call from Kerry/DNC/Lockhart being the trigger to "go." But what I can't figure is how CBS knew of Burkett in the first place.

At any rate, the details aren't vitally important, in order to reach the conclusion that this was a DNC/CBS project. Neither could pull off the Fortunate Son campaign alone.

This is turning into a circular firing squad. Cool!

Yes, but they're trying their best to keep the party out of the circle. Kerry's boys don't mind a game of Russian Roulette as long as they get to pick the chamber beforehand.
