ANTI-IRAQI FORCES ATTACK 1ST INFANTRY DIVISION FROM MOSQUE

TIKRIT, Iraq— A 1st Infantry Division patrol was attacked Sept. 22 by anti-Iraqi forces with small arms fire and mortar fire from a mosque in Samarra at approximately 5 p.m. The Soldiers did not return fire.

The patrol had been attacked earlier by AIF in another location of the city and returned fire. The AIF relocated to a nearby building and continued attacking the patrol. Attack helicopters supporting the patrol fired hellfire missiles into the building.

The patrol continued and was subsequently attacked by AIF with small arms fire and rocket propelled grenades. The Soldiers returned fire with small arms fire and a TOW missile. Anti-Iraqi Forces again attacked the patrol and attack aviation dropped a GBU-12 bomb on the building. As the patrol continued they were engaged by AIF from the mosque.

There were no injuries to the Soldiers or damage to equipment.

You read the release the same way as do I. They put these releases out strategically, to mold expectations. I think this is setting up an offensive where bad guys hiding in Mosques will be presumed to be legitimate targets of opportunity.

The article talks about hitting "buildings"--but the pc roe's translated into DID NOT RETURN FIRE. I'm putting it out here: after the beheadings and all this patty-cake crap with the "holy city this" and "the holy city that"--

Bomb the F-ing mosques. NOW! If a mosque is used as a base, bomb the damn thing back to hell where it came from in the first place. This is getting old. I think that NOT bombing the mosques in the first year of the conflict was a good strategy. It gave time for the majority of the Iraqi people to see we were not there to conquer. It also allowed the Iraqi people to know that they are becoming victims to terrorist claiming to act in the name of their moon-god.

I feel now however, that the population will not have a civil war or revolt because we hit a mosque with the terrorists in them. I think the independent Iraqi army will be dealing with this problem big time in 2005 and will elect on their own to decimate these terrorists wherever they may be hiding, including mosques.

DivCG Terry Allen ordered Div XO, General Theodore Roosevelt,Jr, to level the mosque. DivArty happily did a 30 minute TOT. Problem solved.

I agee, these people (if you can call them that) have turned most, if not all, of their so-called 'holy places' into forts and ramparts. Our forces are well within the rules of war to obliterate these places and those therein.
