Folks, This is an article from the MLIVE.com website on Michigan news. Apparently the town of Whitehall MI. plans a mock terror drill with a school bus as the target. I am all for drills to prepare for disasters, but this paragraph in the story is shocking
"The exercise will simulate an attack by a fictitious radical group called Wackos Against Schools and Education who believe everyone should be homeschooled. Under the scenario, a bomb is placed on the bus and is detonated while the bus is traveling on Durham, causing the bus to land on its side and fill with smoke. "
Homeschool terrorists?????? Perhaps they will put underwear on their heads and taunt them with higher SAT scores and Nation Spelling Bee awards. I will leave it to you to draw your own conclusions....... URL is http://www.mlive.com/news/muchronicle/index.ssf?/base/news-5/109569331454310.xml
and by the way- I am a long time lurker, but newbie poster, so be gentle.

This so reeks of political correctness!
Why not call the obvious? Or are we afraid of offending the Practitioners of the Religion of Peace?

Wasn't it 19 christian home-schoolers who hi-jacked planes and flew them into the world trade centers...

This is outrageous. Imagine if they tried to use a fictitious muslim group. Or even a real one.
To make matters even worse it "is being funded by homeland security grants awarded to several area school districts and Muskegon County". The government should not be funding this insult to homeschoolers.

We've often joked about homeschool gangs - the boys with rolled-up ankles of their khaki pants and their top button
unbuttoned. Gotta be careful of weirdoes like us, huh?
Still, I'm more amused than angered.

"The exercise will simulate an attack by a fictitious radical group called Wackos Against Schools and Education who believe everyone should be homeschooled." I think it just shows the mindset of those who are involved in the government "Homeland Security".
They're more concerned about parents who homeschool their children than duplicating the real event of a school takeover by Islamic militants that happened in Russia just about a week ago...

I don't often post either, but believe me this info has been making the rounds of many homeschooling boards already today.
As both a homeschooler *and* military mom of two on "active" duty, military sister whose brother is in Iraq, and military aunt, I'm *not* amused. Neither is anyone else I've talked to. :(

Of course it is important to create an identity for the mock terrorist group.
And of course we should not stereotype Muslims.
And of course we all know those antisocial home-schoolers really would like to do something like this.
</sarcasm off>
I don't know who would come up with such an idea as labeling home-schoolers as terrorist.
Rod Paige could have given a better example. He might have suggested the NEA Against Parental Rights, who believe children are the property of the schools.

That is disgusting! That's a public school teaching tolerance for you.
