excerpts from insight magazine.......The failure of Dan Rather and CBS News to properly check their sources is not merely an isolated incident of partisan politics. It is representative of a widespread rejection of objectivity within the news media.
The shocking truth of why major news organizations often do not perform the most elementary tasks of fact checking is that facts are a decidedly secondary consideration to them. Promoting their own subjective view is all that matters.Such mainstream advocates of what is known as the "new journalism" explicitly devalue, even outright repudiate, a rigorous commitment to facts and truth in the news. After all, "objectivity really isn't the way to report."
These excerpts say it all..............

Bri Hume gets my vote as well!

can the news division be separated for a temporary suspension while allowing the soaps, sports, etc. to continue to run ? It's their news division that's causing, and has long since caused, CBS's problems.

Bush should leave the cBS moderator on. When he gets a goofball question, he can ask, "Did Dan give you that question?" heh heh

However, if we don't get Hume, then who else should be the moderator? Ann Coulter.

I think the budding controversy over whether Bob Schieffer should remain a debate moderator has some huge implications that are not yet appreciated.
I've summarized them on my blog.

Bob Scheiffer is one of those "journalists" whose only credentials are wearing a trenchcoat and reminiscing ad nauseum about their first big "scoop:" November 22, 1963.

Yeaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Forgot about her.
The Dems would go absolutely ballistic and say she's too partisan to handle the chore.
The only difference between Ann Coulter and Dan Rather/Peter Jennings/Bob Schieffer is that Ann will admit her partisan leanings.
To: KsSunflower
Heck, why didn't anyone give a plum spot to someone from The National Enquirer or Al Jazeera?
CBS has been caught collaborating with the DNC. This is not about fairness or beating them on the own territory. It's refusal to recognize CBS as a legitimate news organization until they clean up their act.

How about Bernie Goldberg, longtime CBS newsman. He may have retired but would probably be willing to do the job.

This is quintessential Bush/Rove strategery here IMO.
Just keep poking around in this to keep the fire smoldering. Don't want to pour gas on it and have it burn up too quickly.

"The media will spend weeks going through pay stubs for Bush's National Guard service in Alabama in the waning days of war, but if Kerry tells them exotic tales of covert missions into Cambodia directed by Richard Nixon, they don't even bother to fact-check who was president in December 1968."

The Bushies should insist on Brit Hume or no debate. Brit is one of the most-respected newsmen on the air on THE most-watched cable news channel. The only reason anyone would object is because he's on FOX.

Who would that have been? Anyone with CBS is suspect. Bob Schieffer. He's a bigger Bush hater than Danny Boy. A real a-hole.

A great choice.
A Dem...but a fair-minded one.
The MSM would never allow him to do it. They regard him as a traitor for exposing their partisan mind-set.
To: Guillermo
Ha, here comes the charges of White House "intimidation" of the Media! I was thinking the same thing. They should probably just let me be... Anything that "reporter" says will be looked on with a bit of mistrust anyway.
