A Louisiana Home Front Celebration

“A LOUISIANA HOME FRONT CELEBRATION”

Servicemembers, Families, Communities: Serving Together with Pride

“A Louisiana Home Front Celebration” planned for Saturday, September 25, 2004 is a one-day event from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Leesville, LA (approx. 5 miles from Fort Polk) that will begin with military fly overs just before a “Ticker Tape” parade- akin the WWII era including hundreds of marching units from all the services (featuring the US Navy Band/ community floats/Grambling State University Band/Historical Vehicles and much more).

Following the parade, and along Freedom’s Trail – a 1.2 mile stretch of downtown Leesville- that extends through the historic part of the old community will feature all types of entertainment, cultural activities, and fun. Freedom’s Trail is actually the same path used during the 1940s parades during the famous Louisiana Maneuvers. Old-fashioned community carnivals, military reenactments, vintage aircraft flyovers, entertainment, food and lots of fun will be offered.

The event will include Aaron Tippen, the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders and the Army’s Nascar driver. We want to say thanks to our men and women in uniform, and we know that appearances by some of America’s celebrities would highlight this event. The event will provide 5 focal areas with stages for the entertainers along with military tributes. The event is free and open to the public, and military families eat one meal absolutely free.

Thanks for posting this. My son is a Ft. Polk soldier--A Co./1-509th IN (Airborne). He deployed to Iraq about three months ago, but is now home in Tennessee on a 2 week furlough.
