XXXXX DRUDGE REPORT XXXXX MON SEPT 20, 2004 20:02:09 ET XXXXX
BUSH OFFICIALS WANT CBSNEWS MODERATOR OFF DEBATE Just hours after CBSNEWS admitted it cannot prove the authenticity of documents used in a 60 MINUTES story about President Bush's National Guard service, top Bush advisers are recommending a CBS reporter be removed as moderator of a planned presidential debate, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.
At question is the approved Oct. 13 debate at Arizona State University in Tempe with Bob Schieffer, chief Washington correspondent for CBSNEWS, moderating.
"Considering the circumstances, we should definitely ask that Schieffer be replaced," a top Bush adviser told the president on Monday, according to a well-placed source.
The well-placed source continued: "Who can trust these CBS people to play it straight [during the debate]? I suspect they will be out for revenge."
The president is said to have not made any decision whether to seek a removal of the planned CBSNEWS moderator.

Seriously, that has crossed my mind. Imus is the best interviewer in the business, except for Lamb. Imus' problem would be that he would let them talk too much. He'd need someone like Bo Dietl to keep order. (The last part is only half serious)
Heh heh..

P.S. I have a bit of a quarrel with the part about being young and liberal. I think that those who are young and conservative are just far advanced in their observations as to how the world works.
"...when you think about it, which candidate will do better up close with real people? GWB or the Flopper?"
I really believe that GW is so much more personable and comes across as sincere, but I'm a republican who loves GW. There are those dims out there than think the same about Kerry (gag me). In a town hall forum, I actually think it could go either way. I am hoping that the real on-the-job, first-hand experience of GW will be what outshines the pathetic no-experience rhetoric of Kerry. They guy has never hald a job or authored any legislation.
I should hope they get Brit Hume.
Actually, Dubya has already nailed Kerry on this. As soon as Kerry made the statement the first time, The President asked something like this: Maybe Senator Kerry can tell us whether Great Britain was co-erced or was bribed?
Kerry's so far out on a limb right now, staking out his "final position" on Iraq, that all W has to do is shake the tree a bit and Kerry will fall flat on his butt, early in the first debate.
It's going to be W by a knock-out.
How about responding to a belligerent followup question with, "Sorry, I forgot you were from CBS and couldn't tell an honest answer from a forgery."
Registered Republican who is going down with Kerry. He also stated that the SBV's were liars. But, you know, that's what makes this country great. I can turn him off if I like.
