My source familiar with discussions within CBS says that the discussions of "Dan falling on his sword" have been "muttered all over the place, but there is nothing solid - so far just "rumor and speculation." However, many staffers has been told to gather around 11 a.m. for an announcement of some sort.

I oredict the staff announcement is Mape's resignation (I'm probably not the first to say this -- haven't read the thread).
Rather, Heyward stay. Burkett fingered as the lone gunman. Move along, nothing to see here.

My Guess: He won't fall on the sword, but they'll announce him doing creating a new program for Sunday mornings after the new year, and his position on nightly news (and 60 II) will be less and less.

Maybe they'll announce Dan's on drugs and he's checking in to the Betty Ford clinic. Or Dan can hold a press conference and say he is coming out of the closet in order to prevent people from attempting to blackmail him. He will be retiring two weeks after the elections.

They don't want your respect or mine. The NYT's provided the cookie cutter on this. They'll off management, retire Dan, send Mapes to far off place and then redouble their efforts by hiring someone even more liberal to oversee things.

I've always heard that Rather is a major chauvenist.....he'll probably throw Mary Mapes under the bus--not that she doesn't deserve it--and blame it on his "woman producer".

Rather and McGreevey were pretend gay lovers. This is an attack on his gayness.

"...spend more time with my family."Which, of course, includes my daughter, Robin...who just happens to hobnob w/Democratic leaders in TX, who of course network w/national dems, who of course are leaders in the Kerry campaign. I know, judging from the current state of the Kerry campaign, that they could use a good PR guy w/strong broadcast journalism skills...and then, of course, I may elect to pursue cabinent posts once Mr. Kerry takes office.

"Mistakes were made."
I just love that saying. Never have so few words covered so many screw ups, lies, etc without actually accepting personal responsibility.

Thanks for clarifying that . . . that makes more sense.
That still seems so bizarre anyway, doesn't it?

No, that was a RADIO affiliate (KPRC Houston, to be exact), who dumped CBS' top of the hour radio news and replaced it with Fox News Radio.KPRC talk radio in Houston has replaced only the CBS news with Fox during the 4:00 PM CT time slot which featured Dan Rather. The remaining top of the hour news breaks, with other announcers, are still CBS but they are exploring ways to void the CBS contract. Nevertheless, it's still a courageous and correct decision on the part of KPRC.

"I did not have sexual relations with that forged document"Does oral familiarization with a forged document constitute intimate relations? Rather says "no way!" (Let that be a moral lesson to you young people)
To: Aquinasfan
Sorry for the confusion. I was amen-ing you. I was saying "Yes, exactly. Gotta use passive voice-- a fave of liberals."
