Rodney King says he doesn't want to be remembered as the person who started the Los Angeles riots in 1992. King's videotaped beating by police shocked the nation. He uttered his famous plea, "Can we all get along?" as the riots raged after four white police officers were acquitted of his beating. The riots left 55 people dead and $1 billion in property damage in Los Angeles. "I'd like to be remembered for the person who threw water on the whole thing. Part of the solution, you know?" he said in an interview published Sunday in The New York Times. "I want to be remembered as the person who tried to keep peace in this country, that I did my part." King later settled his lawsuit against the city of Los Angeles for $3.8 million, but most of the money is gone. King, 39, has since had a string of run-ins with the law, being arrested for things such as spousal abuse, hit-and-run driving and being under the influence of PCP. He walks with a limp since he lost control of his car last year, crashed into a house at 100 mph and shattered his pelvis. Now he has written a rap song titled "Beat Down" and is working on a book about his life. Asked if society has learned to get along since the riots, King said, "We're working through change, but it's a slow process. Race is the biggest problem we face in this country. I don't have to explain it, do I? We all know what's going on."

Give that man a Peace Prize and a Peace Pipe!
What was the real story behind Rodney King?
I know he got his a** kicked, but I remember hearing something about how CNN edited it in a way that made King look like a victim.
I don't think that you will be remembered for that Rodney.
Well then he better start cracking on that cancer cure.
Can't we all just get a bong?
Would he settle for being remembered as a brain-damaged stoner?
I think he's better remembered as a human piñata.
Maybe he can throw in a full cinder block while he's at it.
Sorry Rodney, but I will always remember you as a fleeing felon, recklessly endangering people by driving 100mph while high on pcp.
Rodney, I'll always remember you as a drugged-up transvestite loser.
ROTFLMAO!!
He'd probably do it...he got knocked so goofy, I don't think he ever really recovered.
He recovered at his brother's home (I don't know the brother) on the next cul de sac over from our home at the time. The few times I saw him he was just kinda wandering around the front yard with a vacant look about him.
Or is it a PCP pipe? The only mistake the LAPD made was not beating this scumbag even more.
How about "BeST Driver in LA"? When I first saw this article, I thought he'd kicked the bucket!
LOL I want to be remembered as a famous artist too, but I don't think either of those things is going to happen.
There was a riot in LA ??
Stay Safe.......Y
Man, it's hard to believe the DNC overlooked inviting Rodney & Brudder Al Sharpton to their convention ..... Bwahaha
