That story about John Edwards being the lawyer who sued the flu vaccine maker is bogus.

Here's a Newsmax article from December 2003:
http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2003/12/13/140235.shtml

"Hillary's Flu Vaccine Crisis"

Newspapers are awash this week with headlines warning that the U.S. is running out of flu vaccine just as the crisis reaches near-epidemic levels, with 11 children dead so far.

Perhaps reporters ought to ask New York Sen. Hillary Clinton, since one of the few health care reforms she managed to inflict on the nation during her co-presidency has now backfired by driving most of America's flu vaccine producers out of business.

As reported by the Wall Street Journal this week, "The reason for today's shortage - as well as seven previous preventive vaccine shortages since 2000 - is that there are just five vaccine makers.

"This lack of suppliers is partly thanks to Hillary Clinton, who as first lady turned government into the majority buyer of vaccines and pushed prices so low as to make business unsustainable."

Last summer the Journal noted that the problem goes back to 1993, when Mrs. Clinton's "Vaccines for Children Program" was first implemented.

Hillary's vaccine crusade was being pushed by her Children's Defense Fund mentor Marian Wright Edelman - even though U.S. child vaccination rates at the time were considered relatively high by medical experts.

But that didn't stop Sen. Clinton and her "reformers." She pressured Congress to back the disastrous plan in a bid to make vaccines more available to poor, uninsured and underinsured children. In the process she turned the government into the major purchaser and distributor of vaccines.

Oops! Unfortunately for the familles of the 11 children killed by the disease so far, things didn't quite work out the way Hillary had planned.

As noted by the Kansas City Star this week, the decision to force vaccine makers to discount their price resulted in "declining financial incentives to develop and produce vaccines."

What's more, the vaccination rate "barely budged" after the Hillary-Edelman brainchild was implemented.

Hillary's "reform" did, however, manage to leave the nation thoroughly unprepared to handle the current flu crisis.

I ain't Mud, but I imagine this story will be next to impossible to track down. It's making the rounds of email inboxes all over the web. I've gotten it twice myself from people on my email list.

The other guy I'm working with already has a relationship with FR and a portion of any proceeds go to FR. Werksferme.

"380 Tons of Explosives Removed Prior to Arrival of American Troops!!"

"The Pentagon said Monday that invading U.S. troops did not find explosives at an Iraqi site where hundreds of tons of bomb-making material were once stored. ...."The White House played down the significance of the missing weapons, but Democratic presidential hopeful John Kerry accused President Bush of "incredible incompetence" and his campaign said the administration "must answer for what may be the most grave and catastrophic mistake in a tragic series of blunders in Iraq."

"But Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman said coalition forces were present in the vicinity of the site both during and after major combat operations, which ended May 1, 2003 — and searched the facility but found none of the explosives material in question. That raised the possibility that the explosives had disappeared before U.S. soldiers could secure the site in the immediate invasion aftermath."

Raised the possibility, my arse...it PROVES that the NooYawkSlimes/60 Minutes conspiracy is an absolute LIE!!

Rush and Hannity are all over this...MUD

"I read where the ol' man is still house hunting. If he don't hurry, he'll need a snowmobile(or sleigh and reindeer) to get around. He and his bride might survive the ice and snow, but Milwacky and surrounds are not for us "tropical" types."

"ol' man"?
I beg your pardon.
Don't let that full head of hair you sport let'cha get too carried away, bucko. {g}

"Good hunting Dan!"

Thanks my friend.
And you can rest easy, now.
Got one!

If the country's gonna implode, the 3 acre plot where I I'll be located on top of a hill will be a *splendid* place to watch it all go down. ;^)
Well water, propane fuel & a septic system.
No more of that city jazz for us.

"Mixed in with some well-earned R&R time with the Beautiful Redhead in her swank high-rise apartment."

I couldn't exaggerate the beauty of the highrises on Milwaukee's "Gold Coast," Mud.
Just couldn't.
So I'll shoot ya through a few photos (to your email addy) when they come back from the developer & you can judge for yourself.
You are still at MSN, right?
If not gimme a valid addy.

"Yeah, from what I hear, Milwaukee winters start right about the time daylight savings begins...Dan's 'Vette ain't gonna like that much, I reckon..."

HA!!
You *reckon* right, my friend.
That's why I bagged a place with a heated *3* garage.
So both of 'em can be tucked in for their long winter's sleep.

...under my watchful eye.

Heh heh; I've always heard that it's better that hair turn grey white than turn loose ;^)

Three acres and no mule?!?! Sounds like a terrific place Dan. Almost in the country no less. Worse places to live my friend; much worse.

Did I tell you about when I went up to Milwacky(late 70's) and interviewed with all the muckity mucks at MGIC, including the president of the company? After being escorted into the pres' office and introducing ourselves, he ultimately asked me how I liked Milwacky? Well friend, I says to myself, I'm gonna hit 'im with a real zinger to break the ice. So I says, "It ain't bad; first time I've ever been in this part o' Texas". I tell ya, the ol' boy didn't crack a smile; crickets would have been a joyful diversion from the absolute silence of that office(I don't think they even had Muzak).

So, I sat there for what seemed like about three days with what I'd submit was one of my best smirks. Thoughts of trap doors; hooks coming from the side of the room, etc fleeted by as I wondered if I had really stepped in it. Me and my big Texas mouth! After about another three days he smirked back. You ever try not breathing for six days?

Long story made short, I got the job(in Texas), and spent over five years with one of the finest companies in the country. Truly a class act. I didn' mean to run on like that...

BTW, are you gonna getcha some mud grips fer yer 'vette?

"Almost in the country no less. Worse places to live my friend; much worse."

But you should see the place, Mr.C...it *is* the "country". Real country, cold during the winter & hot & humid during the summer but country nonetheless.
Nearest neighbors are acres aways, so while they're not *miles* away -- in Texas terms -- they're not looking in the windows, either.
Considering the times we live, I'll take it.

"Did I tell you about when I went up to Milwacky(late 70's) and interviewed with all the muckity mucks at MGIC, including the president of the company?"

Nope, ya sure didn't.
I do know you were probably doing the interview at the Marine (Bank) Plaza building downtown, on the Milwaukee River though.
~eh?

I must admit I've sometimes wondered what your connection with an outfit like MGIC might've been.
Now I know.

"After being escorted into the pres' office and introducing ourselves, he ultimately asked me how I liked Milwacky? Well friend, I says to myself, I'm gonna hit 'im with a real zinger to break the ice. So I says, "It ain't bad; first time I've ever been in this part o' Texas". I tell ya, the ol' boy didn't crack a smile; crickets would have been a joyful diversion from the absolute silence of that office(I don't think they even had Muzak)."

BWAHAAAAAAAAAAA!!!
Whatta great story, what an even better memory too.
Given my experiences with your kind of folks over the years, your's was a beautifully typical response from a dyied-in-the-wool Texan, too.
Believe me, I've been handed variations of that kinda response before, when I was in the military and dealing with a Texas kid in my platoon.

"So, I sat there for what seemed like about three days with what I'd submit was one of my best smirks. Thoughts of trap doors; hooks coming from the side of the room, etc fleeted by as I wondered if I had really stepped in it. Me and my big Texas mouth! After about another three days he smirked back. You ever try not breathing for six days?"

No, not exactly.
Usually my gaffs & social fuax pas resulted in *sudden* death.
Never had the *luxury* of wondering my fate for a whole 3 days. {g}

"Long story made short, I got the job(in Texas), and spent over five years with one of the finest companies in the country."

Fabulous.
And from what I understand they're still in business, too.

"Truly a class act."

Explains their hiring you, doesn't it.
Even if it did take 'em a whole 3 days to figure it out.
Yanks are like that sometimes y'know, slow. :o)

"I didn' mean to run on like that..."

Glad ya did, though.
Nothing like a great story to give me a certain warm feeling, confirm good things used to happen to good people even if its become somewhat rare these days.

"BTW, are you gonna getcha some mud grips fer yer 'vette?"

Nawwww.
The Vettes will be stored all dry & comfy with battery tenders hooked up.

My bride informed me she'd like me to get her one of those Hummer things, the smaller one, a "H2" or some such?
If you knew my woman you'd shake your head at that one, Lord knows I sure am.

Nonetheless.

...she can then drive me around. ;^)

Okay gang. I've been negligent in trying to schedule an RTM. Work is really busy and I've just not been able to tend to scheduling this important meeting.

So. Since I'm away at a conference next week, how about an RTM on either Thursday or Friday of next week? We can celebrate election victories and plan the overthrow of Walter Stosch and the rest of the traitorous 17.

Please indicate your preference - Thursday or Friday.
And, which Shockoe Bottom restaurant should we meet at? I kind of feel like the restaurants that survived Gaston could use the help.
