FOR THE RECORD: CBS Memos Controversy on Free Republic
Free Republic ^ | September 18, 2004

Posted on 09/18/2004 3:26:50 PM PDT by Howlin

In the interest of the historical importance of things that happened on this forum last week and, most importantly, to try to provide and document an accurate record of exactly what happened here on the evening of September 8, 2004, and the following morning, I have compiled a listing of ALL of the postings that occurred on Free Republic concerning CBS and Dan Rather 60 Minutes show from 8:00 PM EDT on Thurdsay, September 8, 2004, up until about 9:00 AM EDT on the morning of Friday, September 9, 2004, when the rest of the internet "caught up."

I am posting this thread for two reason.

First, to document the facts as we all know them to be -- and to try to put to rest the dubious claims that have been made concerning exactly how this all came about and exactly who "brought" it about.

Perhaps I am doing this to try to set the record straight, so as no one else will believe we are anything other than who we are: a bunch of really cool people (in Freeperware) from all across this country and from all walks of life with a passion for this country and for the truth who are lucky enough to know a man like Jim Robinson who decided to make this his life's work and give us all a place to rant/vent/question/opine/whine/relish the events that go on about us.

And, secondly, to remind everybody that even though Buckhead, TankerKC, and myself are the names mentioned in the blogs and articles concerning that night, it was, as it always is here on Free Republic, many, many posters; numerous questions were raised BEFORE the famous post #47.

And if I might add this: in my humble opinion, it was Free Republic at its best; I'm proud to be among you.

Howlin, thanks for laying it all out for us. That shoots a big gaping hole in the theory that Buckhead was a VRWC plant. I urge any doubters to simply monitor the next "live thread" about any subject ... the AM talk shows, football, etc. ... and you will observe the same terrier-like deconstruction of the event and realize that the famous Howlin / Tanker KC / Buckhead thread (and a lot more names as Howlin's post shows us) was not extraordinary. In fact, I'd say Buckhead was pretty late with his shot but he was the first to score a direct hit.

Thank you for assembling all that together, and a huge (hugh) thank you to TankerKC, Buckhead and yourself for your parts in pointing out CBS/Rather's attempt to hijack the election. Yeah yeah yeah, I know if it hadn't been you it would have been another - that's what FR is all about. Still... thanks! :o)

I'm so grateful and proud to be a member here.

Excellent job, Howlin! Thank you for all of that hard work.

BTW, does anybody have pictures of Burnett that were captured off the HardBall program? A friend of mine who works for a major newspaper is looking for them, but they don't seem to be online any more. In fact, there doesn't seem to be ANY pictures of him online except for maybe one of him when he was 17.

Thanks for this historical time line and the names of the participants in discovering the CBS hoax. I'm proud of FreeRepublic and all involved. Special thanks to Jim Robinson for providing this site and the heavy lifters... TankerKC, Buckhead, and You. I'm thrilled that I was there when it unfolded. :o)

Note to MSM researchers: Here is the true story of how it was "done" in hours, not the 5 years CBS took to concock the "story."

Thank you.

Booked for historic reference. I truly believe that what has happened with these documents, how and how quickly they were exposed will be taught in journalism classes long into the future. Interestingly enough, CBS seems to be – inadvertently – assuring the story will not go away soon.

And you are correct it was (is) Free Republic at its best.

EXCELLENT!!!

Thank you for putting this together ...

Hint to the MSM if you're lurking .. it wasn't just the fonts that tipped Freepers off that they were fake

There sure were alot of people on that thread contributing.
Too bad the MSM didn't take the time to research all that happened. Once again, they glossed over everything and everyone except that which they were looking for...to nail Buckhead.

You guys are awesome. Everyone here is awesome. Proud to hang out here with such a group of talented, intelligent people (who also have a sense of humor!)

It's been quite a week...and as I said before, I got nothing done around here!

We're in our pajamas all the time but we never sleep!

Bump! Excellent work and you are right about all of us working together. And, luckily, you, Buckhead, and TankerKC were really "tuned in" and acute that night. If it was another night, it might have slipped passed you guys. But, we are, if nothing else, vigilent.

EAGLES UP!
