The ongoing controversy over the fake CBS documents and the prominent role played in shedding the light on this by Freerepublic.com has caused an unprecendented surge in new memberships on the website.
Thursday, September 16, 2004 should be remembered as a landmark day for this website. On that day, more new users signed up on Freerepublic.com than on any single day before.
Click here for a running tally of daily new signups that the website keeps.
The 390 users signed up on the website eclipsed sign-up spikes caused during other newsworthy events, such as the Florida recount during the 2000 election, and the events of September 11, 2001.
The name of the website has been publicized widely in many media outlets as the source of the first revelation that the CBS memos were forgeries.
According to web traffic tracking site Alexa, Freerepublic.com has shown a remarkable increase in traffic over the last few weeks, as shown below:
Note from founders of the website: Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. In our continuing fight for freedom, for America and our constitution and against totalitarianism, socialism, tyranny, terrorism, etc., Free Republic stands firmly on the side of right, i.e., the conservative side.
Here's the link to a FR statistic that really matters. Let's keep those dimes and quarters rolling in, ladies and gentlemen.

(I don't know why I'm not on the donor list, but I swear to you all that I have done my part.)

A very hugh task.... ;-)
FR as an institution needs to do that, as regards language and comments - but if you look at the threads that first broke Memogate I think you will see some counseling that we should just find the silver lining in the memos rather than risking being wrong about the validity of them. That was in retrospect terrible advice. As an individual FReeper, Buckhead was excited about what he perceived - and if he had been wrong, so what? It was an important possibility, with hugh implications if true. So, he pleaded for fuller investigation. And the rest is history.
Boy, somebody got inspired, great words 33, you nailed it perfectly.
Does that mean we hafta to reopen the training camps in Michigan for all the newbee Pajamahadeen?
I think the photo of Sophia Parlock may have had something to do with it. :)
That was just part of the essay. I'm going to ping you to all of it.
I'm gatorgriz. I'm very proud to have become a FReeper on April 13, 1998; I think I'm a member of the sub 5,000 club; in the 4,300 area I think.
I'm a pajama wearing pit bull just slobbering for another big ol bite of liberal blubber butt. Debunking the MSM and the DNC is my game. I'm a FReeper; it's my duty.
I'll be here debunking their crap until I cross over into the Shadow Mountains. I will never submit; I will never give in; I will never compromise my conservative beliefs; I will not allow the opposition to impugn my integrity, patriotism, character, and honor anymore.
I am not alone in the wilderness; JimRob took care of that a long time ago. We are not alone.
Collectively we will win this fight. I am a FReeper; I am gatorgriz.
Much appreciated, great stuff.
(Shhh!) Next you'll let the cat out oif the bag that there are---how do I put it politely?---politicians!!
I remember when FR was in the top 1000, we gotta get it back up there
160,000 -- but a large part of those are probably troll accounts.
You're welcome.
"I am a FReeper; I am gatorgriz."
I'm sure you couldn't care less, but I like your attitude, and your devotion to the cause.
Yep. I better keep quiet on that one. We all know that isn't true. :)
You gotta know that Lauren is a long time, hard core 'Rat. Having warned you:
