The ongoing controversy over the fake CBS documents and the prominent role played in shedding the light on this by Freerepublic.com has caused an unprecendented surge in new memberships on the website.

Thursday, September 16, 2004 should be remembered as a landmark day for this website. On that day, more new users signed up on Freerepublic.com than on any single day before.

The 390 users signed up on the website eclipsed sign-up spikes caused during other newsworthy events, such as the Florida recount during the 2000 election, and the events of September 11, 2001.

The name of the website has been publicized widely in many media outlets as the source of the first revelation that the CBS memos were forgeries.

According to web traffic tracking site Alexa, Freerepublic.com has shown a remarkable increase in traffic over the last few weeks, as shown below:

Clymer-Not to be confused with Clymer,Pennsylvania where I am from,even though the rats outnumber us Republicans. We are named from George Clymer signer of The Declaration Of Independence. He owed land in the area,in fact he gave land to start the Town of Indiana,Pa(10 miles from here). Jimmy Stewart lived there.
We have a weekend Celebration this coming weekend,which started out a number of years ago as a Reunion for the U. S. S. George Clymer. As a stringer for the Pittsburgh and Johnstown TV Stations we covered the crew members as they visited the local grade school and gave talks to the children. Every so often they come back for a Reunion weekend. When they are not here we have Clymer Days,we will be having Fireworks this coming Saturday ans The Vogues are playing.
