The ongoing controversy over the fake CBS documents and the prominent role played in shedding the light on this by Freerepublic.com has caused an unprecendented surge in new memberships on the website.
Thursday, September 16, 2004 should be remembered as a landmark day for this website. On that day, more new users signed up on Freerepublic.com than on any single day before.
Click here for a running tally of daily new signups that the website keeps.
The 390 users signed up on the website eclipsed sign-up spikes caused during other newsworthy events, such as the Florida recount during the 2000 election, and the events of September 11, 2001.
The name of the website has been publicized widely in many media outlets as the source of the first revelation that the CBS memos were forgeries.
According to web traffic tracking site Alexa, Freerepublic.com has shown a remarkable increase in traffic over the last few weeks, as shown below:
Note from founders of the website: Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. In our continuing fight for freedom, for America and our constitution and against totalitarianism, socialism, tyranny, terrorism, etc., Free Republic stands firmly on the side of right, i.e., the conservative side.
DU stands for a website talk forum that is very liberal basically the opposite of this site. It stands for Democratic Underground.
You will also se DUmmies which we often refer to them as. LOL
take care, CD
Well, I've had my moments as well!!
I finally realized there are some folks here no matter what you say to them, they want to argue. So I just don't go there anymore.
This is one of the best sources for breaking news anywhere. We have 100,000 reporters!
I wonder if more of the MSM is checking the site?
I would love to see Rathergate have an impact on the media. The corporate pocketbooks are going to have to have an impact on coverage one of these days.
Thanks.
Thanks for posting. I was just asking about this a couple of days ago and didn't get an answer!
Thanks for the information...took a look at DU...looks kinda like CNN.com.
You got it.
I know there are some big names that post or log in here, does anyone have a list of those people. Just curious.
TIA
CD
And more Vanities than you could beat Dan Rather to death with.
Yes, but only because they were forced to. For years various pundits and news sources have been plagiarizing and reacting to ideas and opinions presented on FR without giving due credit.
It seems FreeRepublic.com has come of age.
But the powers that be simply cannot have this, so be prepared for assaults on Internet free speech. Mark my words.
How many were trolls? LOL!
At least they'll be good for a few laughs. ;-)
And don't forget the humor!!! I get a few good belly laughs every time I go through a series of threads.
Trolls don't realize that troll hunting here is a conservative sport! They don't last past one post, even on a bad day!
Yup. We recently added our 5th server and John already has a couple more on order. We will continue beefing up the system as we add more readers and posters. Now over 168,000 signed up and growing.
Received this note from John on 9/17:
Had about 5.3 million hits yesterday, 180,000 unique visitors. About 38,000 comments.
Still working on restoring the [stats] reports. Installed new tables to track comments and articles by time ranges. I'll be able to resume the daily reports as soon as I write the connecting code.
And this from John the day before:
More than 5 1/2 million hits, almost 200,000 unique visitors.
