SACRAMENTO - Faced with the prospect of vetoing populist bills to raise the minimum wage, protect car buyers and combat the high price of prescription drugs, Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Friday accused Democrats of sandbagging him to boost their own political fortunes.
In an interview on Sacramento talk radio, Schwarzenegger lashed out at the Democrat-controlled Legislature for sending him both ``silly'' bills and politically motivated measures.
``I'm trying to do good things for the people, but they try to jam me so they can go back and say to their district: `Look what this Republican governor did' so they can go and get their votes in November,'' said Schwarzenegger.
The governor has 12 days left to approve or reject hundreds of bills on his desk, including high-profile measures that would raise the state minimum wage, enact a ``car buyer's bill of rights,'' and allow California to import low-cost prescription drugs from Canada.
Private Democratic polling has found all three measures are popular with voters, putting Schwarzenegger in the difficult position of having to reject bills that are favored by average Californians, but opposed by some of his top donors.
Schwarzenegger has developed an uneasy relationship with lawmakers, swinging between lauding them when they are working well together and calling for a part-time Legislature when they hit an impasse.
Friday, the governor expressed frustration with lawmakers for turning aside more than a dozen bills he sponsored, and once again vowed to circumvent the Legislature by putting a package before voters to enact new political reform laws and change how voting districts are determined.
``Eventually I will put on the ballot an initiative and then have the people make those decisions,'' he said on KFBK radio.

Veto them all, Arnold.
Arnold is a man of the people and the peoples choice in many ways. He needs to take this directly to the people by getting back into campaign mode. With elections pending it would be a 9.0 on the California Political Richter Scale.
---he found time to sign a "silly" bill on the banning of .50 caliber rifles----
Um...Arnold....this is why folks elected 'The Terminator'.
Get terminatin'!

"average californians" .. what the heck is that? Are they now a special interest too? ;-)
The word 'Business' has a whole different meaning to 'Rats anyway. Time to give them the business.
Veto, Veto, Veto... Why must government be the end all for so many amongst us. criminy.
Yup! He can do it and still get reelected. Don't sign anything but an autograph, Arnold.
Just veto them.
Ahnold maah-st CRAH-SHH da Kal-ee-fornia Democrat-controlled Legislature!
You know, the normal ones.
lol.. would that be the pierced and lanced ones or the unpierced and unlanced ones. ;-)
Stick it to them Arnold they are nothing but "girlie men" anyway.
He needs to have a press conference where he cites each specific bill and instance where Dems are blocking him, and he needs to NAME NAMES! That would get those aholes off there duffs and make them cooperate instead of hinder Arnold's efforts to heal California's economy. This is just typical leftist behavior and the people that elected Arnold to FIX things need to know.
