It was a perfect September day at the Minnesota State Fair and I was pleased to be on stage with Sen. John McCain. I was proud to be an American, active for the first time in our political process.
What got me going is the "veteran phenomenon" caused by a rupturing of the wound in the American body politic called "Vietnam." That wound has never fully healed, and it started festering again when Sen. John Kerry saluted and announced to the American people that he was "reporting for duty" at the Democratic Convention in Boston.

Many of the other veterans who stood in the hot sun to hear McCain stated that they will vote Republican this year for the first time. When asked why, the consistent response was a belief that Kerry is not fit to be commander in chief because of his antiwar activities after returning from Vietnam and because of his famous salute and "reporting for duty" statement at the Boston convention.
To many military veterans, especially those with Middle East experience, the single most important issue in this year's election is the Iraq War.

Most Vietnam veterans have a hard time embracing Kerry as a comrade in arms because of his abysmal record on national defense issues since returning from Vietnam. And most veterans also find it difficult to differentiate between his service and his later actions.
To salute and say "reporting for duty" seemed self-serving to many of us. By spotlighting Vietnam, Kerry has reopened an old wound and unknowingly created a "veteran phenomenon" that will likely cost him the election.

as well it should. No vertern would vote for Jane Fonda, I see the same reasons not to vote for kerry
Im glad to see that i was mentioned in the article :^D
Ah yes... the "The Salute". Ranks right up there with "The Kiss" performed by Al and Tipper before a live audience!
Boy!
That writer bought a phrase and didn't let go! (Repeating it three times!
(And these are the "professonal" journalist we are suppoed to love and adore!)
From that moment until now he continues his slide into oblivion.
I could not not believe it when he did it. I guess he was clueless as to how veterans would view this self serving act. I guess he calculated that it would appeal to the droves of people who have never been in the service. To a veteran he looked like an idiot.
If John Kerry had had his way during the Reagan administration, we'd probably still have the Soviet Union, still have the Berlin Wall, and a communist East Germany.
Could that have been his objective?
The "smart" guy sKerry keeps proving how wise Forrest Gump's momma was..."Stupid is as stupid does."
Message from Iraq
The proud warriors of Baker Company wanted to do something to pay tribute To our fallen comrades. So since we are part of the only Marine Infantry Battalion left in Iraq the one way that we could think of doing that is By taking a picture of Baker Company saying the way we feel. It would be awesome if you could find a way to share this with our fellow countrymen. I was wondering if there was any way to get this into your papers to let the world know that "WE HAVE NOT FORGOTTEN" and are proud to serve our country." Semper Fi 1stSgt Dave Jobe

Certainly not for the Senate, where he neither wants to quit his day job nor attend to its duties.
Consider Kerry:
We have a veteran from a "lost" war saying he'll make our country proud again. He tells the common person he's on their side and the rich are targeted for more taxes. He promised health care for all citizens. He disfavors a religous group.... Sound familiar? Remember Munich?
I also just heard New Jersey might be in play.
Salute that, Kerry.
I think it was. You know he lived by the Berlin Wall when he was young and his dad, a diplomat, was in Germany. Hmmm, coincidence? You would have thought someone who lived in the shadows of communism would have been at the front of the line trying to bring it down.
I agree. If it was at least a good salute he may have got away with it but it was pitiful and wimpy.
