Burkett Gave "Information" to Max Cleland; Cleland Told Him to "Contact the [Kerry] Campaign"

Sorry for all of the sirens, but I think they're all pretty much deserved. Mark tips me to a not-so-shadowy link:

In an Aug. 21 posting, Burkett referred to a conversation with former senator Max Cleland (D-Ga.) about the need to counteract Republican tactics: "I asked if they wanted to counterattack or ride this to ground and outlast it, not spending any money. He said counterattack. So I gave them the information to do it with. But none of them have called me back." Cleland confirmed that he had a two- or three-minute conversation by cellphone with a Texan named Burkett in mid-August while he was on a car ride. He remembers Burkett saying that he had "valuable" information about Bush, and asking what he should with it. "I told him to contact the [Kerry] campaign," Cleland said. "You get this information tens of times a day, and you don't know if it is legit or not."

Uh, I'm sorry, but aren't most Senators and Congressmans cellphone numbers unlisted?

I would assume so .. especially someone who is so active in the Kerry Camp.

It's not something you would just give out

Heck .. I'm a nobody and I don't even give out my number

Sorry, I do not have a source.

Aw come on, I talk with Max almost every day, don't you? Unfortunately I've lost his cell phone number or I'd give him a call and tell him to lose any documents he might get from a fellow named Burkett as they are fakes, maybe he'll see this message--burn 'em Max! Mrs PD

"From my knowledge of Bill's character, I am 100 percent positively, unequivocally certain that Bill Burkett has not created or falsified any documents," Van Os told the Times.

I don't know how much money Burkett has, but you can bet your ass Van Os has it all!

Burkett's lawyer, a prominent Democratic activist named David Van Os who is the party's candidate for the Texas Supreme Court denied that his client had forged the Memogate documents.

This Os guy seems to be popping up a lot. Maybe its all about the Os.

Rather is so biased, so vile, that he is willing to trash his own reputation and career to protect Terry McAwful and the DNC.

He might just take the whole damn CBS network down with him, too.

Was Burkett in or near the Cleland party that went to deliver the note to Pres. Bush asking him to stop the Swiftvets? It could be that Bush's refusal to become involved caused Kerry to give the goahead to Burkett. Cleland seems to be key here. And he has had nasty things to say about the President's ANG service.

from Post #13
"Cleland confirmed that he had a two- or three-minute conversation by cell phone with a Texan named Burkett in mid-August while he was on a car ride." Not just any Texan named Burkett knows Cleland's cell phone number!!!

from Post #20
"Before Cleland's August trip, Burkett telephoned the ex-senator saying that he had damaging information about Bush."

So, Burkett and Cleland had two phone conversations.

Didn't Rather say that CBS News had been working on GWB's NG service questions since 1997 or 1998? If that is true, CBS News were out after GWB long before his run for the Presidency; Rather was collecting info for his hit piece against then Governor GWBush. Wonder how many other 'persons of interest' Dan has been collecting 'hit piece data' on over the years, waiting for an appropriate time to use it?

LOL DarthVader. I was in the Army 30 years ago and I completely agree. If you shoot yourself with your own firearm, or blow yourself up with your own hand grenade, you are NOT a war hero.

"The recklessness of Max Cleland reflected in his Armed Services Report Card: "

He's a putz, but that's not really fair.

He was exiting a helicopter, saw a hand grenade on the ground that he thought had fallen off his webbing but actually fell off someone elses, and then it blew up.

There are plenty of things to bag on Cleland about, but being a cripple isn't one of them. Show some class, pls.

So I gave them the information to do it with.

It's a shame Burkett wrote this in such an ambiguous manner. Now we'll never know whether he gave them the information or not.

Bwahahahaha.

Exactly. From what I understand, at least when Max was awarded his Silver Star (in an action different than when he reached for the grenade of unknown origin) it was for something more than shooting a kid in the back. Gotta give him credit where it's due...

So, I for one will not engage in poking fun at an unarmed man.
