IUPAT issues apology
IUPAT website ^ | JohnK

Posted on 09/17/2004 10:45:29 AM PDT by jsk10

The International Union of Painters and Allied Trades believes in the fundamental right for civil discourse, freedom of speech and activism to support our candidates and issues.

What happened in Huntington, West Virginia yesterday is an affront to everything we, as a union, pride ourselves to represent. We extend our apologies to the Parlock family, especially Sophia, for the distress one of our overzealous members caused them.

I have personally taken steps to address this issue internally, and will take immediate disciplinary action to the fullest extent allowed under U.S. Department of Labor regulations and the constitution of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades.

It is my hope that this incident reminds all of our members that every last citizen in this country has the right to express his or herself freely. Not one single one of us has the right to tell them otherwise.

General President James A. Williams The International Union of Painters and Allied Trades

I'm a Theta Chi, and I never ripped up any Dukakis signs.

OTOH, I never had the opportunity, either.

Glenn Beck interviewed victim Phil Parlock this morning. Here's his page with the audio link for the interview.

According to Phil it wasn't just one union thug that grabbed his signs and harassed him and his daughter-- it was a whole crowd including women and an old lady too. They were also jeering them as they left with the little girl crying, and still trying to grab what was left of the sign in the little girl's hands.

So now the DU is posting a pic of his family (he has 10 kids) saying the whole thing was staged. How long do you think it'll be before Dan Rather gets involved?

They could pull his union card, fine him, or a couple of other things. This is bad PR, which is something a union can not afford to have.

So an agitator is someone who holds up signs at an opposing rally? Interesting....

Well, to say DU and Dan Rather aren't trustworthy is no news.

I like the statement by the union president. A classy and quick response.

>>>Good enough for me.

Me too, this showed some class. An unabiguous apology. As someone said on another thread, if only CBS had this much class.

I hate unions but kudos on the apology.

If Rather had the brains enough to do this the day after his memos were ID as forgeries, "Memogate" would be over right now.

I just sent him this.....

"Dear Mr. Williams,

I want to thank you very much for your letter to the three year old that was so scared at the rally in WV. I am not a Union member, just a mom and my heart went out to her. I have a four year old myself and can't imagine her fear.

You, as a representative of your Union, have demonstrated the caring of your members seeking out this horrid man. I send you Kudos with a capital "K"!

Thank you"
