TV show rejection simple for Santorum ("The Simple Life" not so Simple Alert!)
Pittsburgh Tribune-Review ^ | September 17, 2004 | Eric Heyl

In terms of brilliant television casting, it certainly would have trumped the addition of Don Knotts to "Three's Company" in 1979.

Unfortunately, it wasn't meant to be. Sen. Rick Santorum won't be joining Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie for a new season of the pair's Fox TV series "The Simple Life"...

Fox contacted the offices of Santorum and House Speaker Dennis Hastert, of Illinois, to inquire about possible internships for the dynamically dim duo...

In pitching the idea to Santorum's office, associate producer Ryan Crow suggested that Hilton and Richie could perform administrative tasks, help enact certain policy reforms or perhaps help in drafting a bill.

The comedic potential of Hilton faced with the prospect of drafting legislation is undeniable. Paris: "A bill? I thought a bill is what your trust fund manager pays after you go and charge the entire eclectic Vera Wang spring collection on your American Express card."

Santorum's staff members embraced the idea about as warmly as they would the group of US Airways pilots with whom they have been feuding.

I'm sure Clinton or Kennedy could find a 'position' for them in his office...

From the things I heard, you really don't want them doing that.

(You think I actually watch shows like that? No.)

I could never fathom the show. Two hot looking skanks living among the peasants, well that's the reason for FOX's ratings.

I have a great idea for these arguments for an inheritence tax...let them sign up as privates on the front lines in Iraq. And, no special rich girl treatment like Paris got with the horseback riding injury (that's when I got too fed up to watch anymore).

It's hard to understand how The Simple Life can be deemed entertainment. Two stupid, lazy young women run around the country who work as hard trying to get out of work as they would if they really did work. Is this something we should hope for our daughters to aspire to? I think not. Send Paris and Nicole back to where ever they came from - their permissive, rich families.

I watched 4 of those shows and found absloutely no redeaming value in either one of them.

They are spoiled, rude, dishonest, theives, liars, lazy, criminal, crass simple minded twits.

I don't know, this could have given Santorum the exposure he would need for a 2008 presidential campaign.
