The boy on the right with the clenched fist looks to me like he belongs with the father and little girl...same colouring as them. Maybe he is feeling rage toward whatever really big, grown-up, mature Kerryite tore up his sister's sign. Just a guess.

If I'm right, he'll be a life-long Republican.

There are so many posts on this thread, but my immediate impression was that perhaps this boy on the right (dressed more in line with the man and little girl) might be a big brother ready to take somebody down.

I think I detect a resemblance between the boy and the little girl. I think they are brother and sister. Notice how he seems to be directing his stare at the union goon, not the dad and daughter.
