Dan Rather an "old Marine"?

Please help me out here but I seem to remember Dan Rather would refer to himself on occasion as "this old Marine". As I remember he never was a Marine or had gotten washed out. Would this be a good time for him to release his own service records?

Can anyone vouch for accuracy or is my memory suspect?

It would be very interesting to read or see a report about "Washout Dan"'s two failed experiences in boot camp. Of course Marine basic training is notoriously hard and not for everyone. ("That's why we have an Air Force," one young Marine recently semi-joked.)

Having said that: I'll bet that a few of 72-year-old-Dan's boot camp contemporaries could be found today (although his supervising NCOs may be dead or unable to remember one recruit out of the thousands and thousands they dealt with). I wonder what those old (and TRUE) Marines would say about Dan. Maybe "Kenneth" couldn't do the pushups, but I suspect it instead had to do with psychology.

And if Rather never made it out of recruit training(boot camp) then we Marines don't consider him a Marine! Period!

Sounds like Dan blather was a disgusting fat body! He must had been in PCP(Pork Chop Platoon). Not only is Danny boy a hypocrite, but a loser. This makes me feel a lot better about the Marines. I remember that use to bother thinking that quisling slug was part of the few and the prod.

He washed out of boot camp.

A recruit does not get the "eagle,globe and anchor" until he/she graduates from boot camp.
And a DI doesn't call a recruit a "Marine" until the day he/she graduates from boot camp.
So Blather can call himself whatever he likes but he can't call himself a MARINE!!!

And that's the bottom line.
